(1)
Brian L. T is a graduate of the University of Arizona (1993) where he earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Saxophone Performance and a minor in Music Education. He also has Music Education degrees from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, Minnesota (M.S., 1990, B.S., 1986). He is a proud member of the School of Music at Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas serving as a Lecturer of Saxophone since 2013 and Southwestern University, Georgetown Texas since 2017 where he is Instructor of Saxophone. He has been a member of the music faculty at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota and Concordia University, Austin, Texas. In addition to private saxophone instruction he has taught courses in theory, history, orchestration, jazz history and popular music.
As a saxophone performer, Dr. T has performed as a featured soloist in the United States, Spain, Germany and Canada and a toured China as a member of the Elision Saxophone Quartet. He also performs frequently in the Austin area where he has been guest soloist with local high school and middle school bands. He released the CD "Contest Music for Alto Saxophone" in 2007.
Currently Dr. T can be heard performing professionally in musical theatre in the Austin, TX area as a woodwind specialist (saxophone, clarinet and flute) for many local theatres.
He also provides solo recitals and master classes for local high schools and middle schools. Brian is an educator at heart and sees it as a privilege to help students become better musicians and performers.
Brian was born and raised in Wahpeton, North Dakota where he still visits family yearly. Saxophone lessons were not readily available to him here and he has always wanted to provide a way for students to study saxophone and music no matter their proximity to an instructor.
He has an artistic family who have made music and fine arts education an important part of their lives. His wife is an oboist and elementary music teacher, his oldest daughter is a middle school band director, his son in law is finishing his doctorate in music education and his youngest daughter is an amazing singer and visual artist. He has a loving miniature dachshund, Remy, and owns a 1928 Model A.
