Hello there! Getting a music education is fun, and it should be. Why else would you put yourself through the gauntlet of learning a new instrument? My philosophy is simple: I teach people first, and music second. What I'm interested in is developing your sound and love of the craft of music, and all the technical aspects that go into playing music well. I can safely say that no two students are alike. We’re all different and have different needs! Music is at the intersection of our emotional, creative, scientific and spiritual selves and I consider myself very lucky to be able to share the joy of music through teaching guitar, ukulele and bass. A 30 minute lesson is quick so we have to make the most of it! If nothing else you will always have a good time in the lessons because there is no pressure other than to HAVE FUN (and hopefully learn something new). I have 15+ years of playing jazz, rock, pop, funk, and gospel and more with groups such as Mike Zabrin's Funktastic and Kevin Presbrey, as well as 10+ years of teaching under my belt. I’ve played thousands of gigs at clubs in Chicago such as Andy’s Jazz Club and The Green Mill. I’ve played to thousands of people at outdoor festivals, to the tiniest coffee shop gigs. I’ve played inside in the nice air conditioning and outside in the rain! Basically, I’ve done some of everything. I have had many great teachers over the years, including Kelly Sill, Geof Bradfield, Art Davis, Neal Alger, John Moulder, Zvonimir Tot, and Adam Roth, and have a BM in Jazz Guitar from Northern Illinois University, where I studied with jazz and classical guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque. My NIU experience was centered on “jazz”, or more correctly termed BAM or Black American Music, but there was always something going on there, from Balinese gamelan music to The Afro Pop ensemble led by Mathew Tembo (guess which one I was in!) For the duration of this COVID crisis, I’ve decided that I’m going to do online only lessons for everyone’s health and safety, including my own. Take care, Be safe, And keep shredding, 🖖 BQ

Brian has been great! My son really enjoys lessons with Brian. Before the pandemic my son attended in person lessons. I sat through the lessons outside the door and Brian was amazing. He had lots of patience with kids. He explains the lesson thoroughly! Anthony learned allot from him. Now because of the pandemic Emmy son does online classes with Brian. Which seems as if they are in person lessons. Anthony responds to Brian. After each lesson Brian follows through with suggestions, and homework for Anthony to practice through the week! It has been a real pleasure working with Brian! I would definitely recommend Brian. He’s great!

I'm 10 years old. I started lessons with Brian 1.5 years ago. He's an awesome teacher. He's very good at making guitar concepts easy for me to understand. He's very patient. I started lessons in person, and when quarantine started, we did lessons online. Brian is great at teaching both online and in real life.
