About Brian H.
I am a former band director with 12 years classroom experience. I have taught and performed professionally in the Jackson, TN and Memphis, TN regions for 7 years and have been active as a director, performer, and private instructor in central Florida since 2014.
I graduated from the University of Memphis in 2007 with a masters degree in music performance. While at Memphis, I studied with Charles Schulz (principal tubist, Memphis Symphony Orchestra), John Mueller (euphonium, former principal US Army Band "Pershing's Own"), and David Spencer (trumpet, soloist with Hong Kong Symphony and Brazilian National Symphony). While at the UofM, I performed with world-class tubists Jens Bjorn-Larsen and Dan Perantoni. I also earned the Clement Santi Memorial Brass Scholarship.
During my teaching tenure, I had multiple students earn the top chairs at All-State, win concerto competitions, be accepted to numerous schools of music (including Northwestern University, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee, Belmont University, University of Mississippi), and be awarded the highest scholarship for entering freshmen (Rudi Scheidt School of Music; Memphis).
Also during my tenure, I had the privilege of leading my ensembles to earning numerous awards including Superior and Excellent Ratings. I am in the process of building my own businesses in both private education and Audio Visual Productions.
I know what it means to succeed and fail. I know what it takes to bridge the gap between the two—dedication, hard work, and a desire to succeed.

We hired Brian to work with our barely 3 year old to play the drums we got him for his birthday. He loves it! We don’t have any grand aspirations for him, but he likes to bang around and we wanted to give him some direction to see if he latched on to it. Our main objective is that he has fun. Brian is GREAT with him and he looks forward to it every week. 10/10!

Just had my first lesson with him, and he was amazing! He's relatable and puts things through a perspective that you wouldn't have ever thought of. 10/10 recommend him, and if I could give more than five stars I would. And I plan on doing lessons with him all throughout high school.

Brian is one of the teachers that sticks with you for the rest of your life. He cares about his students and is an excellent teacher. He started me on a journey that had me playing euphonium for years after he moved.

Brian is the reason I began to take tuba seriously and I am 100% certain that I wouldn’t be half the musician I am today if it weren’t for him. I took tuba lessons from in high school and he was great at challenging and pushing to get better and better every single lesson we had. I strongly recommend anyone who has the chance to study with him to please take it.

I took tuba lessons from Brian for a few years, and I highly recommend him. He is an excellent and passionate music educator. He is great at keeping students challenged and motivated, and he has a cheerful and fun personality. Thanks to Brian's help, I made first chair All-State tuba, won a couple of soloist competitions, and was accepted to multiple colleges for music performance. With those kinds of results, I wholeheartedly recommend Brian for private music lessons.

Brian really takes the time to connect with his students-- it's clear he values his students past the time spent together in lessons. I cannot recommend him enough!
I am 110% convinced I am a better musician because of him.

Brian is an excellent teacher! He taught me in music theory, music history, clarinet, French horn, and some voice. Thanks to him I was able to Clep out of Music Theory I in college. Music lessons gave me confidence and leadership skills. I highly recommend learning from Brian!

Brian is a phenomenal instructor with years of musical and background in education.

Brian is a phenomenal musician and amazing teacher! My tuba lessons with Brian helped me make huge strides in my skill and confidence as a performer. With his guidance I became an all-state tuba player for Tennessee. If I could give more than five stars I would!!
