My name is Brian C. and I've been featured in the Berkeley Folklore Archive for songwriting! I am a creative person who is adept at a number of musical instruments. While I don't play them all, I would certainly like too. I have a music degree and I would love to teach your student anything from how to read notes of the staff (or tabs), to free improvisation and songwriting. While I read and write music proficiently, I believe all practice, improvised or from a book develops your ear and improves your skill. What can I teach you to make you enjoy music more thoroughly? I have taught music in classroom both in person and on zoom. I have a masters degree in Education and have taught in public schools around the bay area. My most accomplished instrument is saxophone but I love to sing and play guitar or ukulele. I have some skills at jazz and blues piano as well. *** Lesson Details *** I have a strict policy of fun. I'm rarely lenient on this policy. Practice is not always fun, but half the time you should practice with tenacity (e.g. sight reading, scales, arpeggios etc.) and the other half just noodle around with your instrument. It fosters a sense of comfort with music and opens the door to mature improvisation, a tool of great importance to nearly every musical style. As for my fun policy, lessons should be a fun chance to show off and learn something neat, they are much less efficient if the practice due takes place solely during my time.
