Learn the basics of guitar from a touring musician

Professional musician of 10+ years specializing in bluegrass and old time music. I picked up my first instrument when I was only 6 years old, but for the past 10 years now, I've been traveling around the US playing with hundreds of musicians and learning thousands of songs. I will teach you the basic building blocks of music theory, technique, and ear training to be able to pick up new melodies on the fly and be able to jump right in to any jam circle.

    About Brett K.

I am a professional touring bluegrass musician. I primarily focus on the mandolin, but I play a bit of guitar, bass, and fiddle as well. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Audio Production from the Art Institute of TN-Nashville in 2011, and have been performing professionally since 2012. I've been playing music almost my entire life through a variety of instruments and genres, but have found my true passion in bluegrass and old time music. I began studying the genre in 2012 and have been hooked ever since. I play mandolin in a contemporary bluegrass band full time, as well as in pick-up groups on recording sessions. Over the years, I've had the honor of sharing a bill with legendary bluegrass acts such as The Seldom Scene, Del McCoury, Jeff Austin, Keller Williams, and more. Although my passion is in bluegrass inspired music, I'm versed in other genres such as folk, country, jazz, rock, and blues. My experience as a bluegrass musician is mostly reflected in my "by-ear" teaching techniques. That is the way that the bluegrass tradition is handed down through the generations, and I believe learning by ear is the most musically freeing way to play an instrument. Through our lessons, I hope that you will not only play music, but understand it. You will not be dependent upon a piece of sheet music to be able to play a song, and you will be able to pick up melodies quickly and express your own creativity through your instrument via improvisation. I teach students from a wide range of ages and skill levels. Whatever your learning style, pace, and musical preferences are, I'll tailor each lesson to your individual needs in a fun and stress free way. Subjects we will cover include: technique, music theory, improvisation, ear training, songwriting/composing
