I am a freelance filmmaker with five years' experience in several key departments of the physical production arena. I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film/Television Production.
Students can expect to learn a number of skills, and/or choose to focus in on a particular wing of filmmaking. Topics span budgeting, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, design, sound recording and design, directing, producing, and critical thinking. Through these lessons, cultivating a personal voice and confidence in the formation and execution of ideas will be highlighted. I want to encourage students to find where their creativity flows and build on their strengths, while challenging their comfort zones through the exposure to other departments.
As a Production Designer, I regularly work with film crews in principal photography of feature films, music videos, short films, and commercials. In this leadership role, I strive for a safe, efficient, and clearly-communicated workspace. This has propelled the quality of my work, and allowed me to see what not to do in a given situation. I want to bring those values to the teaching arena, as they are the backbone of a well-crafted filmmaking process.
My passion is writing and directing, which I make time for outside of the usual workload of the Art Department. The storytelling structure and formal creation of a film are crafted here, and both inform and are informed by every other department within the umbrella of filmmaking. Regardless of what facet the students prefer to focus on, they will no doubt encounter knowledge about all aspects in their lessons.
I look forward meeting you and helping you begin your journey as a filmmaker!
