Learn to speak French: Language lessons with a fluent speaker

SPECIAL AREAS: IB study and exams, comprehensible input GROUPS: Small groups are possible, please let me know how many you wish to have in your group and I can make the appropriate arrangements for price, etc. I am a professional public school teacher, and have been tutoring and teaching since 2013. I have worked primarily with teens and adults in that time. I'm happy to say that I am a very flexible teacher. Together we will find the best way for you to learn and feel successful in French. Specifically, I speak of two main options: traditional school learning and a method called comprehensible input. *Traditional learning is something you're probably familiar with and may have experienced in learning a lesson. This is the textbook, worksheet, and grammar repetition version of learning. For some people, this works for them. This is how I learned French, and some find success with it. However, if you've ever felt this wasn't the best method for you (or you'd like to try something new), please keep reading. *Comprehensible input is an approach that allows us to dive right into French, no matter the topic and no matter your level. That's right, even a beginner will find success this way! Comprehensible input emphasizes learning grammar and vocabulary in context (for example, through reading or listening to a simple story), which is much more effective in making the information stick. Think of it this way: this is exactly how you learned your native language! Your parents did not sit down with you and a vocabulary list or grammar charts to teach you; you learned language as you encountered it. It works! Clearly, I'm excited about the comprehensible input method, but I can also help you with traditional study as well. Like I said, it may be what works better for you! So let me know what you're thinking and let's get started! Allons-y! (Let's go!)

SPECIAL AREAS: IB exams, comprehensible input I'm a lover of languages and learning. To me, speaking another language is like unlocking a secret to another world and I love sharing that feeling with others. I first started learning French in 1993. My 7th grade best friend and I thought it would be very cool to learn French. We had those adolescent daydreams of speaking a "secret" language to one another as we walked down the hall. We didn't quite get there in 7th grade, but French absolutely grabbed me and wouldn't let go. Even after our family moved to a small town that didn't offer French, I still studied on my own until I eventually went to college. The rest is history! My friends describe me as casual, friendly, helpful, and understanding. My goal is to help you reach your goals, whether that means casual phrases for vacation time or building to full fluency. To do this, I listen to the things you want to learn instead of telling you what you must learn. As a certified public school teacher, I know how to structure our conversations to get where you want to go. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Language and Literature, and a Master of Arts in Teaching. I have been tutoring and teaching in public high schools since 2013 and am excited to start an online endeavor with you! I have experience teaching in an IB school and can help you prepare for the IB exam. I also have experience teaching English Language Learners.

We have been so lucky to find Bobbie! Her particular knowledge of the IB curriculum in addition to her expertise in French has been the most helpful to our son (who does not love French Class). She keeps him motivated and on task. He truly looks forward to working with her and finds her incredibly helpful!
