The music heard around my house in my youth had a country twang until Elvis came along and the music rocked and rolled! In the late 60's I heard "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf and I was sold! While living in Atlanta Georgia during the 80"s I toured with The Original Drifters (Under the Boardwalk/Up On the Roof) and a Supremes cover band called Mocha. They were booked by the William Morris Agency who would actually fly us to gigs around the country! Fun! One weekend would see us in Florida the next in Arizona. To learn more about music I moved to California and became a student at Musicians Institute of Hollywood. Being exposed to one of the coolest musical environments 24/7 was a dream come true. For my hard work I received a Student of the Year award and was eventually hired to work for the school and became a substitute teacher for the entire guitar staff which included Scott Henderson, Allen Hinds and Norman Brown. The staff was encouraged to gig so I toured from California to Nashville with a variety of bands and visited the Caribbean Islands aboard an actual love boat playing jazz and birthday songs! The rock band Exile took me to the Scandinavian countries with a side trip to Switzerland. My dream of letting the music take me places was working out! Moving to Boulder in 1996 gave me the opportunity to start my own teaching business while also meeting future songwriting partners. Dennis Wanebo and I produced our 3rd Martian Acres cd €œIII at my Oilpan Studios during 2013 as well as his €œRunning on Gravity cd. Songwriter Lisa Bell and I toured Italy for 3 weeks in 2010 that inspired a co-produced The Italian Project€ cd in 2013. My songwriting passion is currently being nurtured by working with the Lincoln Avenue Songwriting Society a group of 7 local songwriters who also perform locally and lend support to the art of writing. I live in Boulder Colorado with my son Max and my wife Kelly. I love to perform, teach, write, record music. *** Lesson Details *** Starting from where your knowledge and technique run out I will take you on a path of discovery that will reveal an easier way to play a difficult lick or unlock the secret of what scale to use. Made me learn things I never even considered! Bob is a great teacher! One of the words i think describe him well is professional, and also a really nice guy! I've been taking lessons with Bob for quite some time now and he has pushed me out of my comfort zone. He knows a variety of different genres, artists, and styles that helped me become more diverse in my playing. Also, his technical ability is quite impressive. Because of Bob i've improved my overall guitar skills in ways i never even imagined. I would highly recommend him to anyone at any level. Check out his website here: http://www.bobstory.com

Always a relaxed, inspiring experience Knowledge, experience, flexibility, and a great sense of humor — these are the things you can look forward to when learning with Bob. A truly generous spirit, never didactic or condescending, and adaptable to any situation. I found that lessons could be as regimented or as free-form as desired or needed. More than once I came in planning to work on a given , and it would be, “I know we were going to work on X, but I heard this great version of ’Summertime’ on KUVO, can we look at that?” Boom — off we’d go, whether it was jazz, country, blues, pop music, funk — literally any direction, without a hitch, and always with incredible insights. If you’re looking for quality training in theory, basics, working on a groove, songwriting, or are a total beginner, I couldn’t recommend Bob more highly. Try a few lessons, you’ll be glad you did!

    Experience

    Librarian

    Sep, 1990 - Aug, 1991

    Musicians Institute

Cataloged, stored, shared, tracked all video, books and magazines for school use. Ran an IBM printer that created the school curriculum for an entire school to use. Oversaw the use of a new device called The Egg. A relaxation device used by the staff that used isolation, music, messaging, aromatherapy and positive reinforcement to improve an individuals mood. The whole egg thing was weird at first but after setting in it for a while I found it easy to take a nap which was the whole point I hope!

    Substitute Teacher

    Aug, 1993 - Dec, 1995

    Musicians Institute

Subbed for entire guitar department at Musicians Institute in California for 2 years. Most mornings I would get a call at 8 AM for a class that morning that required me to drive from Long Beach to Hollywood and grab curriculum and jump in with both feet! One day I could be subbing for Scott Henderson's open counseling or Allen Hinds harmony theory class that day. There was a time I subbed for a piano/voice teacher that was a challenge and realized it is just notes and we need to learn them in our heads first. Singing is the way to go and should be a major part of any effort to play an instrument.
