    About Bhavani K.

I enjoy teaching music to students of all ages. My specialties are Oboe Lessons, Music Theory, and Composition. Oboe: Whether you have just begun to play oboe with your school band, or have studied for many years, I can provide you with customized training to fit your needs. I have taught private lessons for over 10 years, and have coached students at schools and ensembles. I have completed my Master's Degree in Oboe Performance from USC Thornton School of Music, have won the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, and released a solo album titled "Bhavani's Oboe" under the Crystal Records Label. I have also performed with several professional ensembles including the Oregon Symphony, Boise Philharmonic, and the Sound Ensemble (Seattle). I am devoted to my students' success, and have a positive and supportive teaching style. I have written several etudes and exercises to teach my students technique, and I also teach reed making to advanced level students. Music Theory/Composition: For students interested in learning Music Theory and/or Composition, I have a special passion for these subjects. Whether you wish to supplement learning an instrument or singing with music theory, or are preparing for the AP music theory test, I can provide instruction to fit your needs. I am also skilled in graduate level analysis, counterpoint, and eartraining. I encourage students to study composition as a way to be more creative and develop a different set of skills in music. My approach to composition is based on providing a strong foundation in music theory and literature, and guiding students through the creative process of writing music.
