I started playing the violin when I was 7. I had the best violin teacher, and she took me through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, grades 1-7, and theory. When I went to college I studied under Charles Mutter (then leader of Edinburgh's string quartet) and Tristan Gurney - both very accomplished and well-known violinists in the UK. I hope to bring what I have learned from these three to my students, with my own flare. I have played in a few orchestras - West Dunbartonshire Senior Schools orchestra, Glasgow Senior Schools String Orchestra, Clydebank High School's string ensemble, choir and windband, and the University of Edinburgh Napier's Chamber Orchestra. Orchestras are where I learned to have a passion for music and to really appreciate what being a musician was all about. In around Austin I sit in regularly with acts such as Gashcat (Kyle Craft) and Wild Bill, and play in a band called My Russian Princess where I get to not only play my violin, but sing and play a synthesizer. I also perform in a duet with Meggan Carney where I sing harmonies and play accompanying violin parts. *** Lesson Details *** I am not an uptight teacher, but I do believe in working hard to achieve success. I like to give my students a music notebook with goals listed in it, so that they know what I expect them to have tried to grasp for the next lesson. For beginners, I usually like to work through Essential Elements for violin as it is simple to understand, and has some familiar tunes and nursery rhymes which are easy to pick up. As the student grows, we will tackle more difficult pieces. I mostly teach classical and fiddle music, but have branched out to jazz, rock and some country when specifically asked to. *** Studio Equipment *** Front Room: couch, coffee table, rocking chair, one cat, various instruments and accessories (organ, drum kit, guitars, ukuleles, amps, mics/stands etc), parents can sit in on lesson, or on patio in the back yard. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide books to be purchased, and bring my violin and music stand. They will provide their own violin. *** Specialties *** Classical, Baroque, fiddle.
