I am an experienced musician of 7 years. My background is primarily self-taught, although I have taken many lessons before. I am the keyboardist for a regionally touring rock band that focuses on improvisation and elements of jazz. As your teacher, I blend tools that I had to discover for myself, tools that I was taught, and tools that I wish I had known years before I did, all to give you a very well-rounded approach to music. A vital element that I believe many teachers skip over is the spiritual or metaphysical aspect of music. Yes, putting your hands on the keys is important, but music is so much more than pressing keys or strumming notes. Take a minute to sit in silence.. What do you hear? Maybe the dog barking next door, the rushing sound of a nearby highway, or maybe the hum of the A/C unit. A rhythm and melody exists within all of these things! Music is everywhere, but we often don't even think to look for it, especially if we aren't sitting at an instrument. Using this mindset I can help you to be more than a pianist, I can help you grow as a musician. Genres I can show you include rock, jazz, folk, and funk. I teach in a very laid back, relaxed, and comforting style that is meant to invoke creativity. There are no wrong answers when it comes to music.
