Bennett Coughlin is an active Percussionist and Arts Leader from Syracuse, New York currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Music Leadership at the Eastman School of Music. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Business from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and an Associate's Degree in Music from Onondaga Community College.
As a music industry professional, Bennett was most recently the Marketing and General Operations Intern at Symphoria in Syracuse, New York and was awarded the Thompson Family Endowed Arts Management Scholarship during his tenure with the organization. In January of 2018, he was one of 23 Music Business students selected nationally to intern at the 2018 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California and was placed with Sabian Cymbals. He was also a recipient of the NAMM President's Innovation Award for outstanding achievement in Music Products during the 2017-18 academic year.
As a performer, Bennett is a founding member of the Avalon Percussion Group, who placed first in the Crane School of Music Chamber Competition in 2018 and were featured guest artists at the 2018 CNY Day of Percussion. He can also be heard on the Syracuse Society for New Music's SAMMY Award-winning album "Music Here and Now." Bennett continues to perform with Avalon Duo and is very active in commissioning new works for percussion. He is currently on the commissioning consortium for two new compositions by award winning composers Vera Stanojevic and Emmanuel Séjourné.
His primary teachers have been Jim Petercsak, Robert Bridge, Jennifer Vacanti, Catherine Meunier, and Kyle Peters.
