I have been interacting with kids and adults in a learning environment for almost 20 years, including camps, babysitting, student teaching, afterschool programs, and in-home tutoring. I find that I receive great results from my students and reach a point where they are energized about what they are learning and are anxious to learn more. Reaching that place is the goal that I pursue with all of my students. This involves trying to gauge exactly where that student is in terms of knowledge of the subject so that I am throwing things at them that is just above that. Something too low causes them to be bored. Something too high causes them to be frustrated. It is in that "lightning zone" where they are most fired up about the material that makes learning the most efficient and easy for both me and the student!
