Hello! I am a full-time musician, artist, and teacher from Raleigh, NC. I have been teaching guitar and songwriting for a few years now and just joined with Take Lessons in hopes that I would find more students. I have pursued music from a young age; I started teaching myself guitar when I was 9 y/o and took lessons from when I was 10 until I was accepted into the University of Miami Frost School of Music for my undergrad, where I studied guitar privately under Dr. Brian Russell. I also studied songwriting, music business, and music composition/production at Frost and graduated last May with a Bachelor of Music.
Since I picked up the guitar, music has taken me to so many places and introduced me to many of my closest friends. I found my identity in high school when I put together my first rock band with a group of friends. We performed at school events, dances, and private parties. I learned the ropes of playing with a group and even wrote my first songs ever with them. I was taught how to read music from my first guitar teacher and that invaluable skill has allowed me to play in multiple pit orchestras for musicals over the years, such as Footloose and Spring Awakening. I’ve gotten to play with major artists and hit-makers like the pop duo R. City, Soulive and Lettuce founder Eric Krasno, and rock guitar virtuoso Andy Timmons. I’ve done session guitar work for an array of artists in Miami, Los Angeles, and Raleigh. Recently, I finished recording and producing my first album, which will be released on all platforms this spring. Currently, I am the touring guitarist and musical director for Daniel Correa, a rock singer-songwriter from Miami with two radio hits.
Over the last two summers, I worked as a teacher at the University of Miami Frost Young Musicians’ Camp, where I taught songwriting, guitar, and a “Making the Band” class to kids ranging from elementary school to high school. This experience, as well as teaching privately over the past few years, has had a deep impact on me personally and shown me the true joys of teaching students who are eager to learn. To me, teaching is not just an income supplement, but a real passion that reminds me why I picked up the guitar in the first place. I celebrate every student’s achievements as though they were my own and love to share the excitement that is always felt with each accomplishment.
I do not have a standard curriculum because there is no such thing as a standard student. I do have and continue to add to a collection of resources that I have available for students of all levels and disciplines from learning beginner chord progressions, to more advanced rhythm and lead guitar exercises, and creative songwriting, composition, and improvisation assignments. I believe in establishing goals from the first lesson and tailoring the teaching to each individual student to best suit the direction they want to go in, and having FUN during the lesson. Regardless of what style(s) the student is interested in, I understand the fundamentals of guitar playing that are transferable across all genres of music that will equip the student to make the music they dream of making.
