Teaching since:
2004

I am a graduate of Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and an emphasis on secondary education. My student teaching was with middle schoolers and I've always enjoyed working with adult learners. While there is something fantastic about every student, I think I am a uniquely perfect fit for the student that is math-phobic or even hates math.

Math did not always come easily for me and I vividly remember being extremely frustrated, especially in high school. One teacher in college, though, had a different presentation style, and everything started to click. After that, I knew that learning math was as much about the instructor as it was about the student. Moreover, I knew I wanted to be the kind of teacher that worked to meet a student where they were at and then teach to their learning style whenever possible.

So when working with me, either alone or in a small group, I will work to get to know you, your goals, your interests, and your learning style. Then I will do everything I can to make the topics relevant to you. I will never answer a "Why" questions with "Just because". If you don't understand when I explain it one way, I will try a different approach, and keep trying until you understand. Learning is a journey, but not one you should make by yourself, and I would be happy to travel some of it with you.

Experience

Supplemental Instruction Leader
Sep 2010 - Dec 2012
Oregon State University

As a Supplemental Instruction Leader, I prepared extra lecture and practice material for a specific class each term. I worked off of a specific professor and tailored my curriculum to mirror their teaching. Then, I presented this extra material to small groups of 2 to 8. Several times during the term, in preparation for exams, I would hold large review sessions for 6 to 30 students. Students in this program ranged from those trying to maintain a 4.0 to those just trying to get that graduation requirement in. Even in a small group/class setting, I strove to give each student a meaningful experience with the material in order to make them more confident and ultimately successful.
