Level up your singing voice with personalized lessons from an experienced vocalist

Ms. S. has a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Eastern Michigan University and is certified Level III in the Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method. She has also trained in Estill Voice through the University of Michigan, with additional training in the Feldenkrais Method of movement. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She will tailor your vocal development to your individual performance goals. Singing is a complex coordination of breathing, phonation, resonation and articulation, overlaid with musical and performance layers. This process needs to be guided by an instructor who is knowledgeable in the vocal processes and anatomy, as well vocal styles and performance. Vocal development progresses as the body strengthens and growing musical skills demand more from the vocal instrument. We'll work together to create a voice which works freely to express the musical and emotional demands of the literature, allowing the joy of performance to burst free.

In my 1st lesson Barbara helped me to understand the logic and mechanics behind head voice, chest voice, posture, and annunciation. I was able to hit notes higher than I had before. I am grateful for the help!

Barbara is wonderful at explaining what she is trying to accomplish in your sound. I've been training to get more comfortable in my range, my over skill, correct oral placement to achieve the proper sound, and getting comfortable with uncomfortable pieces, but I mean that in the best way possible. I want to grow and she's absolutely wonderful in helping me. Very thankful to work with her.

Level III certification in the Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method

Aug, 2011

Shenandoah University

Somatic Voicework™ is based voice upon research done on Jeanie LoVetri in 1988 in Stockholm, Sweden, by Dr. Johan Sundberg and the late Dr. Patricia Gramming of the Royal Swedish Institute’s Music Acoustics Lab. In this research, Ms. LoVetri was confirmed to be singing in three distinct, separate vocal productions on purpose. She was already an experienced singer and singing teacher, working with her voice all day long, and had no vocal health issues. Somatic Voicework™, Ms. LoVetri’s method, is clear, easily understood and incorporates grounding in vocal anatomy and physiology, vocal acoustics and voice medicine, assuring that it presents information that makes sense, is accurate, and is replicable by others, no matter what their background.
