Well, for one, I graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in Music, and I've been playing piano for about 14 years. I'm a music theory nerd, and educate my students with theory concepts such as augmented/diminished intervals, scale degrees, 7th chords, etc (... don't worry if you or your child don't know what any of those things are... that's why I'm here). I have some credits in Jill Scott's album "Light of the Sun" as a background vocalist. I also have some substantial classical vocal skills (in a more general term, "opera"), however I don't teach voice. As far as piano, I have a background of classical training from college, and I currently boast a clientele list of 30 private students.

Aside from playing piano for about a decade and a half, I've been teaching piano for the past 3 years, having taught well over 40-50 students within that time frame. Right now I have 19 private students, most of whom I've had from either the beginning or an extensive period of time.

On our first day, I was a little unsure about Ayana because she had lesson plans that revolved around fundamentals and sheet music. I had some goals for taking piano lessons ( playing by ear, etc) and I explained to her, with my A.D.D, i'm afraid i'll quit piano if you throw a bunch of sheet music at me. Ayana took the time to explain to me why sight reading is important and how its similar to playing by ear in many ways than you realize. By the second lesson, however, to incorporate my goals, she completely changed up her lesson plan and modified it to include what my goals were. Now, I love lessons with her. She still teaches me fundamentals but mixes in my wants to keep her student happy. I can honestly say i'm very happy with Ayana as my instructor.
