I have been a professional teacher, composer, guitarist and electric bassist for over thirty years, and consider myself very fortunate to share the stage and record with some of the world’s greatest talents in contemporary music- both as an accompanist and as a bandleader. The mission of teaching music was always something that came to me as second nature, as I am thrilled every time when communicating with my students through the love of music. I believe in being attentive to the student’s musical needs and preferences while making sure I provide all the fundamentals of music creation and playing experience. I do not discriminate between any musical styles and levels of playing experience. For your convenience, I offer my lessons in a comfortable setting, at the heart of New York City. I am looking forward to sharing my love and joy of music with you! Bio: New York City-based artist Avi R. has been teaching guitar, bass, and jazz improvisation for over thirty years. Although he is well known as someone who specializes in jazz, Mr. R has a special approach to the art of teaching young children and beginners. His patience is simply infinite, and he always enjoys teaching regardless of the student's level, while making sure the student keeps the highest level of interest in the material. Mr. R. also has specific exercises based on repertoire for young children, he often arranges for guitar by himself to enhance student music fundamentals techniques and basic sight-reading. As a player, Avi R’s guitar style is synonymous with lyricism, hard-swinging grooves, effortless chops, humor, and fresh harmonic innovation. His name is included in Scott Yanow’s book: “The Great Jazz Guitarists: The Ultimate Guide”. Mr. R. has been teaching many advanced students who are currently taking an active role in top music acts around the world.
