I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.
I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams.
As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days.
Since I have graduated, I have been performing opera professionally. My career highlights include roles as Cio-cio san(Madame Butterfly) with Snob Opera, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Fairy(Falstaff) with Sir Bryn Terfel with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England, Dorinda(Orlando) with Cantanti Project, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) with Opera Manhattan Studio, Frasquita (Carmen) with One World Symphony, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola) with Capitol Heights Opera, Alice (Le comte Ory) with West Side Opera Society, Adele (Die Fledermaus), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Myrrhine (Lysistrata) with Opera Avanti, Gilda (Rigoletto) with Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, and The First Spirit (Die Zauberflöte) with the Opera Company of Brooklyn.
My international credits include performances under the direction of Conductor Laurent Pillot at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England;the Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, France; the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program in Chianti,Italy; the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel where I was selected to sing for the Japanese Ambassador.
I made appearances as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Town Hall, and MOMA museum in New York City and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
As a versatile singer, I was presented as an aspiring opera singer on the website of Maybelline New York. Her voice was featured in short films for the Japanese technology company NEC. I appeared as a soprano soloist for the opera, Jazz and theater collaboration of "TAKE ABITE" by David Antonio Cruz. I also sings Broadway songs and continues her musical theater studies. She is an active recitalist and also performs Oratorio works.
I was also a finalist at the Opera Idol Competition at Lincoln Center in New York City, The Hariclea Darclée Voice Competition in Romania and the Mario Lanza and Elaine Malbin Vocal Competition in New York City. Ms. Uchida was selected as a vocal scholarship recipient at Savannah music festival.
My upcoming engagement includes singing the role of Gilda in Rigoletto and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera in 2018 in New York City.
Besides being an opera singer, I have been teaching piano and voice for 11 years. I would like to share my skills and experience with you. Since I perform often, I can coach you how to perform on stage in addition to building solid technique and languages. Also, I have taught various kinds of music, such as Rock, Broadway musicals, Pop music, so we can work on all kind of music.
I look forward to teaching you soon!
*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to improve their skills and start to enjoy music more as we work together.
I believe that learning music is fun and enjoyable. However you also need to be serious and focused.
I can demonstrate various and specific techniques, phrasing, and interpretation and will always coach on how to develop your skills. However, I feel it is important for students to think critically on their own and take the first try at solving a problem themselves. I cannot emphasize enough that primarily it is you who find the ways to improve. Leaning music is a collaboration between teachers and students. I hope that through my lessons, students will become more self-sufficient and confident as musicians.
Let me help you become a better musician.

I just signed up with Asuka a few weeks ago while she was traveling internationally for her performance. Because she was away, we did online lessons. At first I was skeptical because of the time difference and the quality etc. but she has very much experience not only teaching, but with online lessons. My son has an international singing competition coming up and Asuka is not only preparing him for the competition, but also for what expect from judges and how to mentally perceive the performance. Although she travels and maintains her successful career, she is able to put everyone ounce of her expertise into helping my son from where ever she is. When she came back to NYC she also worked personally with him as well. She is the best teacher and vocal coach we have had to date.+ Read More
Asuka is an excellent teacher. Very attentive, patient and always happy to explain things in-depth.
I'm almost afraid to write this review lest Asuka's schedule gets totally filled with new students:) I started lessons with Asuka Nov 22 as a beginner and by January 15 the notes I could sing increased by an octave.
My high C/C6 came by early December, a couple of weeks after starting with Asuka. Some of this is my voice type, but I believe anyone who works with Asuka will see improvement.
I am taking lessons with a well-regarded pop teacher from the same time period and I've developed almost entirely from Asuka's lessons vs the other teacher, and quickly too with consistent practice. What Asuka teachers carries over to non-classical singing also.
Asuka is not rigid in her approach, thankfully, and she is so nice about the million things beginner singers can correct. I don't feel embarassed singing in front of her because she is non-judgmental.
I did some online lessons when she was traveling, and I got just as much out of them so even if I leave New York I will continue working with her.
As a total beginner she's already helped me tremendously with singing. She's able to convey effectively techniques.
Asuka is very patient and encouraging. I really enjoy learning from her!
It's my first time taking voice lessons in NYC and Asuka is just great. It's only been two lessons and I'm singing much louder than I ever imagined. She helps you to reach your limits and then go beyond that. She can always precisely point out the things you should work on and if you do as she says you'll sound like a new person. Also, classes are fun and efficient and she makes you feel so comfortable too.+ Read More
Asuka has been teaching my son to play the piano for a few weeks. He is now able to recognize pitch by ear. I was very pleased that she was able to develop his ear while he is learning to read and play. Since then my daughter has also been taking singing lessons with Asuka. She is very excited to perform in a recital. Both of my kids love her and they have a lot of fun during the lesson. We are very happy to have a teacher with such a beautiful voice.+ Read More
I am a retired opera singer that has studied with some of the best teachers and coaches in the world. Most of the year, my husband and I are in the South of France, but when in town, I still try stay sharp and perform at recitals. Asuka has introduced me to new singing techniques which have allowed me to preserve my voice at my age, while maintaining strength. It's really refreshing to learn new techniques that some of the older teachers don't know about. It has done a world of good as my voice doesn't get tired anymore.+ Read More
Initially I was skeptical to have a singing lesson over Skype. However, the lesson that I had with Asuka exceed my expectations. I'm recently retired and have always wanted to be able to sing well. Asuka is bringing me closer to my goal of being a very good singer. I can actually now support my pitch with proper breathing and support. I also love the fact that I can do this from Skype. She is completely setup and uses a piano or synthesizer for a very effective lesson.+ Read More
I have been taking piano lessons with Asuka over six months. I have learned so much. She is a very patient and informative instructor. I thought when I first started that I would never be able to grasp the concept of the piano keys. She made that part of all my lessons very comfortable and made me work to repeat what I was taught. Practice, practice, practice is her motto. I continued to do lessons because she made it fun and I was not afraid to make mistakes. Her confidence in me to do it until I got it made me work that much harder. Piano will now become my hobby due to a very good teacher. I appreciate the way she took time to teach and give constructive insight. Piano is not easy but it is easy for me to attempt to play. None of this would be possible without a great teacher.+ Read More
Great teacher! Very helpful and pay lots of attention to the details. Really nice person!
I had an audition for a musical and I had to learn a lot of songs to sing. I took singing lessons from Asuka. This was my first time taking singing lessons in NYC so I was a little nervous but she was so friendly, kind, and fun. Asuka plays the piano very well and her teaching skills are extremely professional. She makes you feel very comfortable. And guess what? I got the lead role in Cats!! I couldn't have done it without her help!+ Read More

I've been studying with Asuka for over half-year and will definitely continue. I am an amateur singer with 7 years of practice vanished after years of not singing. Since I started singing with Asuka, my voice has become richer, stronger, and more coordinated with breathing. She varies exercises, so the lessons are never boring and always a good challenge. Asuka has a very inspiring voice herself, and she's a very responsible, dedicated and attentive teacher who's also very fun to work with.+ Read More
Wow! I've been taking lessons with different teachers and never found someone that made me feel like I was improving, well that was till I found Asuka!
She will really give you the skills and the dedication that will make you step up your singing level, from the basics to advanced technical skill.
Now it's been 3 months since I started and I'm not changing teachers ever again.
Thank you Asuka for everything!
Asuka is a fantastic voice teacher!!!!!
I have taken about a dozen voice lessons with Asuka over the past two months. She helped me successfully audition for a the Oratorio Society of New York (a well known large chorus in NYC) and then once I was in the chorus helped me learn a very difficult choral piece by Mendelssohn and also the Mozart Requiem. Asuka is a FANTASTIC voice teacher!! She understands how the voice works and how you can improve your vocal technique, and is able to convey that to you. Most importantly, she is incredibly kind, supportive, encouraging and positive. Several times I was quite frustrated and discouraged and she always stayed cheerful and told me not to worry or give up. Without her I would not have made the chorus or learned the music as well as I did. I recommend her VERY HIGHLY!!!
Piano plus singing lessons
Asuku is excellent at teaching piano. She has taught me how to read music. Asuku has an amazing voice and is a very professional teacher. I've improved singing and piano massively and really enjoy my classes. Asuku is a very nice person and always wants you to get the note right. I expect you to improve massively too!
Asuka is a great voice teacher
Asuka is a wonderful teacher â a skilled musician, very knowledgeable about the voice, and patient. I have learned a lot from her, and have really enjoyed the process. She is a consummate professional, and my lessons are always organized and well-planned⦠but she also makes it fun. I trust her judgment when it comes to my voice, and feel that Iâve improved a lot, thanks to my lessons with her.
Asuka is a wonderful teacher. She is patient, has many good exercises and can help anyone find their singing voice. She is able to help new singers build up their skill level through a variety of exercises. I highly recommend Asuka!
recommend she will help lots when you want to become a better player
well Asuka helped me with my singing through a lot of hard work and fun togetherâ¦Now i'm continuing taking piano lessons which i had given up on. Feel with the patience she has will get a lot further then i had awhile ago!!
Asuka is very patient. I am a beginner piano student and want to learn because it will help me with my vocal training. Her corrections and suggestions are very helpful! She seems to really enjoy teaching.
She is the best!
I have been taking piano lessons with Asuka for 3 years. She is very skillful and fun to work with. She tremendously helped me improve my sight reading and fingering. I passed some piano exams because of her wonderful teaching. I had never imagined I could play the piano so well. She is the best teacher ever. I highly recomand Asuka.
I decided to take both piano and voice lessons. She has helped me in detecting areas that I needed to change. She isn't forceful or critical. She is positive yet firm. She is also very pleasant to talk to and very professional. I've been taking these lessons for two months and am planning to continue on. I also love that her location is in the heart of the city where I can get to easily. So far, I am very happy with the progress and excited about what else I can learn.
has very good and comfortable feeling
Heard a song and thought it would be perfect to sing at my son's weddingâ¦problem didn't think it was all possible. Well... Azuka has had a lot of patience and getting my self-confidence there. With her help and hard work think this could really be a dream come true!
Excellent Opera Voice Coach!
I've been having lessons with Asuka since February of this year and it has been a wonderful experience. As a beginner with absolutely no formal training in singing whatsoever, the whole process of learning to sing opera can seem like an extremely daunting task. She is encouraging and friendly, yet treats her art form with the thoroughness and respect it deserves. She really takes the time to explain proper technique throughout the entire process-- from things like maintaining proper support for your voice and more importantly how to sing opera without hurting yourself. Personally, she is helping me to find potential that I didn't think I had before. I feel very fortunate that I am able to have one on one sessions with someone of Asuka's caliber.
Very Knowledgable and Engaging
Asuka has been very responsive to my specific concerns and goals for my daughter's musical education, especially regarding fostering a disciplined approach to achievement.
