Hello! My name is Arryn Bess. I am a recent University of Oregon graduate who graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. I am primarily a french hornist with a background in classical/symphonic music, but I also have a modest background in popular, funk, big band, and brass band music.
Because of my university education I have experience with teaching band instruments including: flute, clarinet, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Because I am a brass player, brass is my primary area of expertise.
I supplemented my university education with several teaching positions. I have taught at two high schools-- Southridge High School (1 year) and West Salem High School (5 years) in Oregon-- as a marching and music instructor for both, and a sectional coach for the Southridge HS wind ensemble. I have also taught as a camp counselor at two separate music camps.
My hobbies include:drawing, calligraphy, weightlifting, and hiking. I also love dogs!
This is a season position for the West Salem High School Marching Band. I taught marching basics, music sectionals, and assisted in designing choreography.
A Preliminary Teaching License qualifies me to teach in a public school setting for PreK-12, specifically endorsed to teach music. This license allows me to work towards a Profesional Teaching License which requires 3 years of public classroom teaching experience and advancing my education in teaching.
