Wanna Be a Voice Actor? Get an introduction to the Voice Over Industry.
I started in voice over back in 2011 doing promos, commercials, sweeps and drops for my husbands radio show on a local station. I also hosted a radio segment called the “Nuggets of Knowledge”on the station. In 2018 I left a career as investigator to pursue full time voice acting and never looked back. I have voiced commercials, eLearning, explainer videos, documentaries, children’s books, film dubbing/ subtitles, podcast intros/outros & IVR/ Message on Hold. Here are a few of the brands featuring my voice: Bank of America, Pfizer, ADT, AARP, Phillips 66, Door Dash, AMEX, AT&T, Kellogg’s, Myrbetriq, Sylvan Learning Centers, Securitas, Pepsi, Spotify, IHeart Radio, Hellmans Mayonnaise & Microsoft. I have also done Audio Description for the well known ABC TV shows Blackish, The Wonder Years, Queens & Women in the Movement. In my former life as an investigator, I developed and implemented several Workplace Violence Prevention programs training over 50,000 employees. I taught several virtual classes on Streets Smarts and Retail Security, spoke on a national stage at several security conferences and have taught youth & teenage classes in a church setting. Training and teaching in a supportive environment is a part of my DNA. I “ham it up” at weekly improv classes and am the President of a Toastmasters chapter. I have trained with some greats in the industry like Lisa Biggs for Narration & K-12 learning, David Rosenthal on Animation & Character Development, Mary Lynn Wissner for Commercials, Voices for All, Edge Studio, VOSTL, The Milligan Vocal Arts Institute, Audio Description Training Retreats. I have coached and mentored many of my VO peers on how to start their VO business and would love to help you with yours. I am open, honest and transparent and I believe in pouring into others but most importantly, I believe learning should be fun.

April is a real gem.. ive had other teachers through Takelessons but April is one who takes the time to get to know you, specifically, before your first session and she come prepared. She makes sure she has a clear understanding of your goals, strength, and weaknesses (through an assessment) before catering her sessions and homework towards you. Other teachers forget about you until they see you again for lessons but April is a teacher you just know is always watching out for you with recommendations and opportunities that goes beyond herself. Best teacher by far.
