    About Annie A.

I have been teaching in different capacities for 30 years. I have two 60 credit Masters in Music in Jazz Performance and in Composition. I lived in Europe for 16 years where I performed with my ensemble in Germany, Russia and the United States. Upon my return, I did my graduate schooling and became a music teacher. I taught in Westport, Ct, at Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie and in the New York City Department of Education. I have led many a Chorus and have taught Strings and Band. There is nothing I love more than seeing my students grow through their study of music. I have seen children develop in so many ways! They grew in self-worth as well as academically and I saw them maturing into fine human beings. I have seen my own enthusiasm for learning and discovery transmitted to my students. I believe that music affects the whole person and that each student is unique. I have given workshops in Multiple Intelligence and will tailor the lessons to the students best learning capabilities. Most of all, it will be fun! *** Lesson Details *** First of all I will share with the student that music is a language and with this language one can express one's innermost self. It's so much fun to "crack the code" and learn to "speak" in music. The first lesson will be spent in sharing a bit about ourselves as we will be working together to reach the student's goals. We will talk about the instrument be it voice, piano or another instrument and I will try to communicate the level of respect one must have for their instrument. That it is one of their best friends. We will always have fun, but it should be clear that this is a journey of discovery and each step will bring the student closer to his/her goal so there should be a willingness and a commitment to give to this goal. Practice will be strongly encouraged. I will help them create a practice schedule and give them assignments. After 3-6 months, they will have learned to sing/play while reading, but they also will have learned to compose and create new pieces of music. I find that this keeps the enthusiasm alive as well as helping them grow enormously as a musician. *** Travel Equipment *** I expect my students to have an instrument and a music stand. I can arrange to acquire the instructional booklets when needed *** Specialties *** Masters in Jazz
