I have been teaching voice students from ages 5 to 80+ for over seven years. Whether your goal is to sing musical theater, with your local church group, in your school choir, or just for fun – I can help you become a better singer and have fun while doing it! Education: I graduated in June of 2013 from Northwestern University, earning my Masters of Music in Voice & Opera Performance. I am a San Francisco Bay Area native and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in music from Santa Clara University, California. Performance: Recent performances include the the role of Pitti-Sing in Evanston Savoyaires' The Mikado, Witch in Hansel & Gretel (2014 & upcoming 2016). Previous engagements include Ma Joad in the Chicago premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon's opera The Grapes of Wrath and Mrs. Herring in NU’s production of Albert Herring. I have been singing in choirs for over a decade in church, university, community, as a paid professional, and notably for three consecutive seasons with the Opera San Jose paid opera chorus. Bay Area credits include Bay Shore Lyric, Lyric Theater of San Jose, West Bay Opera, Notre Dame de Namur University, and Opera San Jose. Favorite roles include Flora (The Medium), Dido (Dido & Aeneas) and Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte). Teaching: I was the Music Artist-in-Residence at a California Public Elementary School for 3 years where I taught over 500 K-5 students each year. I currently teach music at a private elementary school in the Bucktown area of Chicago. I also teach an after school class for Kindergarten/First Grade students in Evanston. Studio: I have had an active voice studio for over 7 years and teach in both Illinois and California teaching students from age 5 through adults. My performance experience includes a variety of singing styles including jazz, classical, musical theater, and opera. *** Lesson Details *** I believe in giving students a foundation for healthy & sustainable technique. I am enthusiastic and friendly, and always encouraging my students with a smile and positive observation. Fun is a must, while still learning a good practice ethic and the discipline needed as a musician. I discuss each students' goals with you in their first lesson and work with them to develop a breadth of repertoire that both challenges and excites you. My passion for music, energy, and creativity make me an excellent teacher. I am extremely positive and know that my students have a great time in their lessons. I am especially proud of the work my young students do. I work with kids every day, teaching music and also at a local (non-music) after school program. I understand the variety of interests within music and the very beginning steps to building healthy technique. *** Studio Equipment *** piano in Noyes Cultural Arts Center, seating for parents in studio or lobby - nearby restaurants, blocks from Noyes purple line stop *** Travel Equipment *** I will bring music, phone/ipad, helpful for student to have piano or keyboard and wi-fi. Students who come to home/studio are preferred: Edgewater, Evanston, Bucktown, and Andersonville neighborhoods for travel. *** Specialties *** Voice: Classical, Jazz, Musical Theater, etc. Acting & Movement for Singers
