Hi! I hold a Bachelors in Music from CUNY York College and I'm certified K-12 in NY state. I am in my 4th year as an elementary music teacher (K-4) at school in Brooklyn and I have also previously worked as a piano instructor at a private music school in Queens for 2 years. Lessons that I provide are very practical and fun (I credit my young students for that). I do not like to waste my time, and I sure do not want you to waste yours. I believe anyone can play an instrument and I also believe it is never too late to start. I began playing at 18 years old and I have been fortunate to do what I do for a living. At the end of the day, I want you to enjoy learning music as much as I enjoy teaching it!. Hope to see you soon! *** Lesson Details *** 45 minutes: 30 minutes of playing and 15 minutes of theory work. 1 hour: 40 minutes of playing and 20 minutes of theory work. Homework given at the end of lesson to be due the following week. (I will always provide music and any other essentials). The playing aspect is simply you showing me what you have practiced for the week (any good teacher knows if you have practiced or not). I move at the pace of my student. There is no rushing in music making. Theory is practically the science of music. There are very important aspects to grasp for all ages, and I feel this area is neglected all too often in music education. *** Studio Equipment *** Yamaha full size keyboard (88 keys, weighted, hammer action) Music stand, sheet music. I play guitar as well, so I will use the guitar to accompany you at times when you are playing piano. It is important to illustrate how harmony is created. The guitar is a great tool for that. *** Travel Equipment *** If you choose to have lessons at your home then I expect you to have an instrument to play on. I do not bring any equipment with me. *** Specialties *** I play a variety of genres, but jazz is my specialty and is the genre I studied extensively as an undergrad.
