About the instructor:
Andrew started playing piano at the tender age of 3. His mom wanted him to spend his endless energy on something artistic so she started him on piano lessons. Very early on it was clear Andrew had a natural, unique ability to connect with the piano. He played in school bands throughout grade school and began performing around DC in high school. While Andrew also plays guitar, drums, and bass, the piano has remained his first love and primary instrument.
At seventeen, Andrew left DC and started college at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. Andrew studied Jazz Piano but also led big bands, wrote and arranged music, produced, and engineered recordings. Shifting from Jazz to Rock in his early twenties, Andrew joined the band Ambulance LTD, playing live throughout New York City, the United States, and internationally, as well as on the "LP" and "EP" recordings.
Upon returning to New York from touring, Andrew began assisting younger students at The New York Piano Academy—helping them to develop their playing skills, as well as their composing and arranging pursuits. The experience exposed his innate ability to build students’ talents through patience and encouragement, consistently taking them farther than they thought they could go. Andrew realized his passion for teaching and began working with students of all ages, from 3 year-old children to seniors. As a teacher, Andrew focuses on making learning enjoyable while teaching all types of music—pop, rock, jazz, classical, and even Broadway. Andrew tailors his lesson programs to the uniqueness of each student and teaches them not only how to play, but also how to better hear, enjoy, and love music.

Andrew is a terrific teacher who is adept at crafting lessons to the needs of his students, while keeping things fun and engaging. Would highly recommend!

Andrew is a fantastic teacher - patient, very knowledgeable and professional. I was shocked by how quickly I was able to progress from a complete beginner to being able to play full pieces. I was nervous but Andrew put my mind at ease and have me confidence with the instrument. He’s very attentive to students needs. Can’t recommend enough!

Never thought l could to be able to learn a Bach invention before. Now I’m playing it. Very enthusiastic teacher.

Great first piano lesson for my 10 year old - Andrew was encouraging, patient and inspiring- my daughter connected with him right away and couldn’t wait to get home and practice. Looking forward to more lessons!

My dad has a wonderful time with Andrew today!

Having Andrew as my first piano teacher couldn’t have gone any better. He is extremely knowledgeable and has the history to back it up. I will definitely be doing more lessons with him in the future because I feel I wouldn’t get along with anyone else better!

Great First lesson with Andrew. He made our teenage son very comfortable in the session, a testament to Andrew's approachable teaching style. Look forward to our continued lessons.

Andrew is a gifted teacher and musician. I was beyond 50 when I started lessons with him, sure there was no way I could actually learn to play the piano. His patience, kindness and expertise overcame my fears and deficit of innate talent. I love his lessons and I enjoy practicing and I can actually play a few tunes!!! He is great at mixing things up - interweaving melodies and theory - and creatively finding new approaches to overcome obstacles.

My 7-year-old daughter had her first lesson today. Our goal was for her to enjoy it so that she would stick with it. When it was over, she told us she thought she had the best piano teacher ever, and she wished she had lessons every day. We couldn't be happier.

Andrew has been an outstanding instructor! I was a beginner/novice when we started, and he helped me with my note reading so I could start playing songs I love. Andrew is very patient and encouraging during the lessons, and I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to enjoy learning the piano.

Andrew was excellent with my daughter - allowing her interests to drive lessons and in tailoring his instruction to her style and needs from day one. This helped her be confident in pushing beyond her normal comfort zone. He's patient and provides appropriate context and coaching. Always flexible with scheduling, he's a great one on one instructor!

Andrew was a great piano teacher, and I highly recommend him. I'm an adult with an interest in electronic music , and I wanted to learn a bit about playing the piano. I was particularly interested in better understanding music as a whole, so that I could use this knowledge to pursue interests in other instruments as well as the piano. Andrew was a patient and fun teacher, and he understood my somewhat different desires with respect to the topics I wanted to learn about, and catered his lessons to my interests.

I would highly recommend Andrew! He's a VERY patient instructor and in tune enough with his students to help them make adjustments where necessary!
