Cultivating a Living Musicality. A music practice is an opportunity for self growth and an exercise for our minds and awareness. It is my intention to provide lessons that; effectively balance theory and practice, patiently support and validate each students unique learning process, encourage exploration and discovery, in conjunction with the study and analysis of traditional concepts. In practice over 12 years. studying the intersections of tradition music theory, performance, conceptual art , and free improvisation. I love teaching music and have been doing it since 2017. I am most technically proficient with guitar (electric/acoustic/classical), but enjoy teaching many subjects and instruments. I've worked with students ranging from age 3 to age 62 teaching piano, guitar, voice, and composition. I'm continuously learning --attuning my teaching to better resonate with each new student. and work to make each lesson efficient, meaningful and inspiring.

Andrew is great - really like his versatility in working with beginners or experts. He is able to accommodate and adjust based on what your goals are (i.e. he can start with basics of music to start at the very beginning or he can help you learn a song knowing the bare minimum. ) He's always on time and very flexible with schedules.

    Experience

    guitarist/songwriter/vocalist

    Mar, 2018 - Present

    Flender

Flender is a new project started by Kalen Rowe and myself. In contrast to our previous project KA, Flender maintains a bit of the improvisational/experimental feel, but has become more and more composed. we've released 3 studio albums, 1 live album, and various jam compilations. describing the sound or genre of the band, Ive jokingly called it Jazzical music because of its long irregular form, thematic elements, and improvisational technique, but since its inception it has evolved into a more regular pop/rock form while maintaining its own unique harmonic structure and sonic qualities. We still improvise as a band in order to write our songs.

    Creative Director

    KA

KA is an inclusive, trans-disciplinary, performance entity created by my friend , independent publisher Kalen Rowe, and myself. The project is geared toward total creative exploration, free improvisation, experimental techniques and concepts. The goal is to put ourselves out of our comfort zone , to listen and use whatever we have to create unique immersive experiences. constantly inviting different musicians and non-musicians alike to perform and co-create something fresh and alive every single show.

La playa was a community run art space, performance venue, recording studio in 3rd ward that was free and open to the public. An ethno-musicological hub that held open mic nights every week and offered free recording. I took residence there for a year and did everything from recording and production for local artists, to curating art in the gallery, to organizing open mic nights, and other events.
