I am a professional Bass and Tenor trombonist and Low Brass clinician, teacher and pedagogue. I graduated from The Juilliard School with a Bachelors of Music and Northwestern University with a Masters of Music in Trombone Performance. I am currently engaged in post-graduate studies at University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, earning an Artist Diploma.
As a working musican, I currently freelance in the Denver/Boulder area, regularly performing with the Colorado Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, Opera Colorado, Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, and other world-class ensembles. I have performed in venues all around the world, including Carnegie Hall in NYC, Symphony Hall in Chicago, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I teach all low brass instruments (Tenor/Bass Trombone, Tuba, Euphonium) and students of all ages. Much of my own pedagogy and teaching method is developed from my years of study and exposure to some of the absolute best orchestral and jazz brass teachers and pedagogues of our time.
Students can expect to receive world-class instruction in the fundamentals of brass playing (sound production, embouchure development, tone quality, rock-solid time/rhythm, intonation, etc), as well as guidance toward the development of musicianship and artistry (phrasing, style, the concept of SINGING with your brass sound). Ultimately, I am a very diagnostic teacher. That is to say, my primary MO is to determine my students' motivations on their instrument, and to craft our lessons and my instruction to best guide them toward achieving their goals! If you are interested in playing low brass at the highest possible level, want to nail All-state/college/professional auditions, or just interested in playing for fun, or ANYTHING in between: I can help you achieve your goals!
