Hello,

My name is Analita Mulligan, and I have been teaching/tutoring the subject of English for approximately 21 years. My teaching career began as a high school English teacher at one of the most highly regarded schools in the country, the magnet school Dr. Ronald E. McNair Academic High School in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey. Then, I decided to move to Japan for several years, and I got a job there teaching the non-native speakers English (both speaking and writing). I enjoyed it so much that I decided to get an additional certification in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). I've also taught in Colombia, South America, working with bi-lingual high schoolers.

My teaching approach is experiential and seeks to centrally engage the students in what I regard to be the fundamental building block in education, critical thinking skills. I also focus on additional transferable skills such as learning how to communicate clearly and directly in one's approach to one's assignments, especially when it comes to the writing. My lessons are always student-centric, therefore, I do not lecture during my tutorials.

I am a native, English-speaking teacher, certified to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL certified). Previously, I worked as a public school teacher in New Jersey, teaching high schoolers writing and literature at one of the most highly regarded schools in the country. And, in addition to working in the USA, I have also taught in Japan and in Colombia, South America. My classes are given both domestically and internationally, in-person and online, and are fully-customized, i.e., they’re tailored to meet the unique, individual needs of each learner. The preferred approach in working with my students is called the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, because it’s highly interactive and reflects the varied situations and activities that they experience throughout their daily lives. I firmly believe that proficiency in all four English areas should be the ultimate goal of any student, whether it be for their professional, academic, or personal objectives.
