    About Ana Z.

I am a Graphic Designer and a former Photoshop and Photography teacher in the public schools system. After receiving many requests from amateur and professional photographers, as well as aspiring graphic designers, willing to learn the unlimited creative possibilities that Photoshop has to offer, I decided to join TakeLessons and become a teacher here. If you would like to learn how to create literally anything your imagination leads you to, or just use techniques to obtain an effect you have seen somewhere, you came to the right place. You can discover the secrets of professional photo retouching, dive in the surrealism of advanced photo manipulation, learn how to draw and paint digitally, create designs for your business or for a personal or a school project, each lesson will be customized to your specific needs. On the other hand, if you are just getting started in Photoshop or Illustrator, or you are working on a project requiring those skills, you have likely tried those You Tube videos and gave up in frustration, as most of these videos are too fast or too advanced. No worries, we can go through the basics at your own pace, until you feel comfortable with using the tools on your own. The sky is the limit. Terms and conditions: NEW STUDENTS: Despite my best efforts to keep the availability feature in TakeLessons up to date, the information it contains might be inaccurate. This happens because my students have the freedom to pick a different day/time of the week each time they book a lesson, change their lesson frequency to allow them to work on the completion of a project or a practice assignment at their own pace, and change their minds if they decide to work on a different project. For those reasons, it is advised to contact the teacher via the Ask a Question function PRIOR to booking a lesson for the first time, so that an assessment of the student’s goals can be made and a first lesson date and time can be agreed upon with the teacher. The teacher will not be held accountable for any availability issues resulting from self-booking or from booking with the help desk, if the booking took place without consulting with the teacher. IMAGE SHARING PRIOR TO THE LESSON. Each lesson is prepared to address a students' particular needs and may require additional preparation prior to each lesson. The student agrees to share files and/or images with the teacher for learning purposes when requested and to be willing to provide these files and/or images in a timely manner and in the requested format, at least 48 hours prior to lesson starting. The 48 hours rule is also applicable when a student is willing to work on a particular project and submits the request and files spontaneously. Examples: any relevant photography work done by the student, any relevant Photoshop or Illustrator project created by the student, homework practice files or images previously assigned to the student, reference images. Failure to timely submit the project description and goals, files and/or images can result in the next lesson being cancelled or rescheduled by the teacher. IMAGE SHARING DURING THE LESSON. The teacher can request additional files and/or images at any time during the course of a lesson for strictly learning purposes. The student agrees to do so in a timely manner so that the lesson can continue. Examples: any relevant photography work done by the student, any relevant Photoshop or Illustrator project created by the student, homework practice files or images previously assigned to the student, reference images. Time used for submission of the additional requested files and/or images will not automatically result in an extension of the duration of the lesson. PERSONAL WORK. Students assume and reserve all the rights of ownership on their personal work. The teacher will provide knowledge, demonstrate techniques, guide through the technical and creative processes, and can assign targeted practice assignments to the students. The teacher will not be expected to fix students' work for them. Any requests of such nature will be rejected. LESSON CANCELLATIONS Due to the considerable amount of time that can go into preparing a class, students' attendance plays an important role in the scheduling and planning of each lesson. Lesson cancellations are only accepted 48 hours or more in advance and require a rescheduling of the cancelled lesson. Same day or next day lessons to make up for the missed/cancelled lesson are not possible. Missed lessons or late cancellations are not refundable. Exceptions may apply in case of an emergency. More than three consecutively missed lessons or late cancellations can result in the student being permanently removed from the roster. Students can discontinue the lessons program at any time after completion of the last scheduled and confirmed lesson. It is advised to notify the teacher by email to keep all records up to date. Questions or concerns about these measures can be emailed directly to your teacher. TECHNICAL ISSUES TakeLessons Classroom is a universal online videoconferencing platform and as such, is not infallible. It is advised to have alternative videoconferencing applications such as Zoom or Hangouts ready to run for the eventuality of experiencing technical issues with TakeLessons Classroom. Students are responsible for making sure that the microphone, speakers, and the screen sharing feature are fully functioning in these applications. When delays caused by technical issues are out of the student's control, if possible, additional lesson time might be granted by the teacher to compensate for the lost time. If switching to an alternative videoconferencing platform becomes necessary, the lesson will still be marked as "attended" in the student/teacher's TakeLessons calendar. All students taking online lessons are advised to be connected to a high-speed Internet at the time of the lesson and have previously checked on their devices the stability and functionality of the applications being used. LEARNING ENVIRONMENT Lessons must be held in a quiet space, away from any noise or distractions.

I will begin with a little of my background. I have been teaching art in a public school for 24 years. I have taught almost everything art related except for Graphic Design and AP. This year I will be teaching Graphic Design 1 and Photography 1, 2, and 3. I had my first remote lesson with Ana today. Ana was able to review 6 of the lessons I created last spring before we met. She is very knowledgeable! I am super impressed with her ability to intuitively know how to lead our meeting. We discussed ways to simplify some of my lessons as well as ways I can practice basic Ai exercises that will help in future classroom instruction. Technology is incredibly challenging for me, but meeting with Ana one time has boosted my confidence for future teaching. I have booked 6 lessons with Ana to get started. I very much look forward to our next meeting!!!

Ana has been an amazing Photoshop teacher. What I am most impressed with besides her in-depth knowledge is her passion to understand my goals and build a custom path to get there. Ana is very patient and goes the extra mile. I haven't been impressed with whatever TakeLessons software is provided for screen sharing. It's problematic getting to a place where it's functional and the screen sharing is blurry which is not good, Ana - AMAZING! Software - Needs some fine tuning for Photoshop type lessons. It may work well for guitar lessons but when details are needed to learn it's just not there.

Ana is an extremely patient, highly knowledgeable teacher with great communication skills. I was starting at a very basic level with no previous knowledge, and she made sure I understood each concept before moving on to the next one. She also came very well prepared to teach me exactly what I needed to learn. Highly recommend.
