Levels taught:Beginner, Intermediate
Why are you drawn to this instrument, piece of music, or performance situation? We will study all of the things you’d expect: scales, exercises, études, and repertoire. But I like to think I add more value than the notes on the page. And learning to play an instrument is all about reflecting your joy of playing it to the world! Precision is necessary but first is passion. This is why we always begin with enjoyment and engagement.
I consider the whole person I am teaching. I like to approach playing any musical instrument with the whole mind and body. You’ll learn how to most naturally hold and play your instrument with as much ease as if you were simply walking down the street. Only with ease can we play these instruments for life!
About Amy N.
Without any musical training at age five my gut told me that I had the innate ability to understand music & that I would make music for the rest of my life. This thought has become my truth. It is this truth that drives me to inspire & teach others in cultivating their own musical truth. Some want music as a way a life & others are looking for an outlet, while others still only want music for themselves for fun. I believe I am equipped with the passion, drive & innovation to serve others in reaching their musical goals. Whether playing solo, in orchestras, chamber groups or bands, I like to incorporate all that I have learned through the years. My experience with strings began with bluegrass fiddling, followed by teaching myself to play guitar & then viola. In my spare time I like to write my own music & play with groups in which I can improvise. Music has come to influence all areas of my life & what I have learned from my five-year-old-self is that it always will.Show More

Amy is a wonderfully gifted teacher! My teen daughter loves her teaching style and encouraging personality. Amy has a knack for understanding a student's strengths and weaknesses and guiding them to reaching their potential. We highly recommend her!
My 2nd grade daughter is enthralled with learning the guitar and Amy deserves much of the credit. Her teaching skills are perfect for my daughter - fun, interactive and at the right level! I am thrilled we found Amy and look forward to watching my daughter's guitar skills grow! - JenShow More
Amy is a super friendly and knowledgeable tutor! I loved all our lessons and hope to get more lessons with her in the future.
Excellent, adaptive guitar teacher.
Amy is an excellent, fun instructor. My 5 year old has really taken to her & I wish I knew how to engage him the way she does.
A complete newbie like me could hardly ask for a better introductor (is that a word?) to music than Ms. Amy. For instance, Amy contacted me ahead of time before even our first lesson and gave me some tips on what to expect and do. When she finally arrived, she brought a wealth of resources and notes for me practice with. Additionally, her background music knowledge is such we could spend time talking about basic theory as well, in between playing. In addition, unlike the hardass Asian teachers of my youth, Amy is unwaveringly patient. I sometimes have troubles keeping up playing outside of class, so Amy recently gave me some tips to manage my everyday life (helpful advice for a student about to go off to college). If you want a professional music teacher that can teach theory as well as skill, you could do no better than Amy.Show More
Amy is really understanding. She was willing to work around my schedule. She's easy to work with and takes her time throughout the lesson, which allowed me to pace myself and learn a little at a time. She's ridiculously nice, so it's easy to talk to her about concerns with your progress or other little issues you may catch while practicing on your own.Show More
Amy has been wonderful. I would highly recommend her as she is both very knowledgable and has a talent for making the lessons enjoyable. I feel that I have already learned a lot in a short time.
We loves Amy and so did our daughter! She was getting frustrated with the violin and ready to quit when we had Amy come in. After the lesson our daughter was beaming with excitement and loved the violin again! She communicated very well with Amy. We look forward to continuing the lessons.Show More
