About Amy M.

I have an MFA in Acting from NYU and a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Music from the U of Iowa. I have been a professional actor (AEA, SAG-AFTRA) since 1987 and have been teaching since 1991. I have worked in theater, film and television (series and commercials). I'm a Theater professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University (2013-present) and have also been on the theater faculty at NYU Grad Acting and Brooklyn College MFA Acting to name a few. I find it so rewarding to act and teach. They compliment each other so wonderfully. I get fresh ideas about teaching when I'm working as an actor and vice versa when I'm teaching. If you are auditioning/applying for a BFA or MFA program I can get you ready as I've helped many students with this and have been through it as an actor. I also teach singing performance for actors learning to sing and for singers learning to act! Actors and singers are story tellers! I will provide acting tools and vocal techniques that actors/singers will carry in their back pockets throughout their careers,

Amy does a super job of explaining the mechanics of singing in a way that is easy to understand. This is the first time that I have taken singing lessons. I have always loved to sing but I never thought I was much good at it, despite singing with my elementary students every day. I never learned to read music, so I felt unsure of my musical abilities. Amy makes me think of myself as a singer, which gives me the desire to stick with it and to keep trying to develop my voice. This is the first time in a long time that I have done something "just for me". Amy teaches many high caliber students who sing on Broadway, yet she is able to meet me at my beginning level with grace and humor. Wherever you are in your musical journey, I know that Amy will bring out the best in you ♡

Amy is an amazing, talented, knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher! I have no formal musical training, yet Amy finds the way to coax notes out of me that I didn't know I could sing. She tailors my lessons to my ability and interests and takes my goal of being able to sing better as seriously as preparing any of her young singers for their Broadway auditions! I feel seen and appreciated by Amy. She makes me feel not only that will I improve, but that each level of improvement opens up new possibilities not yet dreamed of. Amy brings encouragement and hope to each of the lessons she teaches.

I worked with Amy when I was getting ready for the URTA auditions. She helped me with choosing monologues and my song. She coached me on all the pieces and pushed me to a higher level. I'm not really a singer but she got me to tell the story of the song and I pulled it off! By the time I auditioned I felt so confident. I was accepted by many programs and chose to attend the University of Iowa. I'm out of school now and often work with Amy when I have to prepare for the next audition. Work with her! She'll get the best out of you.
