I was a semi-professional classical cellist when I started teaching (after studying for nearly a decade) and I've expanded into other genres since. I currently major in Music Industry at Northeastern University. I also currently produce music for several independent hip hop artists and I have scored some short films.
My students generally have a lot of fun learning to play and become very skilled as well. I've learned to understand exactly what it is that's unique about someone's playing, and use this understanding to develop a specific curriculum for each student. I can help any cellist to better understand how they play, what exactly they need to work on, and most importantly, how to work on it.
Technique isn't absolutely everything, though. Every student has their own conception of each piece, and learning to harness your own creative power and freedom is one of the best things about learning to play the cello. I teach students not only to read and play, but to interpret and understand. Once you put your soul into the music, it begins to sound truly amazing.
As a jazz, hip-hop, and electronic artist I have pushed the cello beyond its usual classical music settings. I bring a cross-genre expertise to the cello that most don't have, and I love to work with students who want to expand their musical experience and horizons.
My personal taste in music leans heavily towards more contemporary styles but it is essential to have technique and musicality when playing in any genre. I look forward to meeting you and helping you become an amazing musician!

Experience
Teaching Intern Program
Mar, 2012 - Jun, 2013InterSchool Orchestras of New York
I taught middle school students from inner-city schools to play cello every week, and oversaw their technical and musical training for about a year. This was my first experience teaching cello as opposed to just learning.
