Flamenco Guitar

Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
Are you a total beginner and just want to learn some of your favorite songs?

Would you like to learn some music theory and how to read music on the guitar?

Do you want to branch out into different styles of music such as Spanish guitar or jazz?

Can you already play rhythm guitar but want to learn how to play lead and acquire some SICK TECHNIQUE and SPEED?!!

Whatever your musical goal may be, I have the educational background and teaching experience to take you there! Years of flamenco, classical and jazz studies at the university level and with some of the area's most renowned instructors have left me uniquely qualified as a guitarist. And over a decade of imparting knowledge in a FUN and RELAXING way has given me the experience to become a patient teacher who gets great results! Several of my students have gone on to prestigious conservatories, started successful bands and have students of their own! Group beginner lessons in the Silver Spring area are forming now and I'm also taking private students...your place or mine!

I've also been actively performing at some of the DMV's most prestigious venues (Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Strathmore, Wolf Trap...) with my award winning band Trio Caliente since 2004.

Thanks and good luck!

Teaching since:

Greetings! I'm a professional guitarist, composer, music teacher and recording artist. I have an associates degree in composition from Montgomery College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland. Along with teaching guitar lessons, I've been performing with other musicians and my own award winning band all over the U.S. and internationally since 2000.

My training in a diverse group of styles including classical, Latin (salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata, bossa nova, Gypsy Kings), flamenco, jazz, blues and rock have left me uniquely qualified as a performer. It has allowed me to share the stage with a diverse group of notable musicians and international pop stars such as Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Little Anthony and the Imperials, Luis Enrique, Jerry Rivera, Nestor Torres, David Pabon, Fonseca, Scott Ambush and Chuck Redd. In addition, my band has released three LPs since 2007 that garnered positive reviews and awards along with placements on TV shows such as "Chelsea Lately" and NBC's "Smash".

My teaching philosophy is to make learning fun, easy and rewarding...and I've gotten some pretty great results! I've had the pleasure of seeing some of my former students play on nationally televised late night shows, hear their songs on the radio, see them billed on big music festivals such as Firefly and SXSW, get accepted into competitive music programs and start their own successful music teaching businesses.

Lessons are offered online or in your home or mine in the Camarillo, CA area. Beginning students will have songs to play right away and will see steady weekly progress with chords and single note riffs and melodies. Intermediate and advanced students are evaluated so that I can assess their strengths and weaknesses so that I can guide them to achieving their musical goals. It's always a kick to watch students play things that they thought they could never play!

Thanks for reading and I look forward to helping you become the guitar player you want to be!

Amilcar is a very focused and professional teacher. He is also very enthusiastic and makes you want to learn. Another teacher had told me I couldn't possibly learn Flamenco guitar but Amilcar said absolutely you can. Now, four years later I'm deep into it and playing fairly complex pieces. I believe he is quite a guitarist in many different musical styles as well. Big fan of Amilcar!

Amilcar can teach different styles and is able to help me with whatever I'm working on (classical, flamenco, jazz, blues, etc.) . His online lessons are great! He demonstrates and records a track. I play with the track and he gives guidance. Then after the lesson I have the recorded track to practice with. Pretty sweet.
