Hello! My name is Amber and I am a certified Spanish teacher. I fell in love with the language when I first started learning it about 10 years ago, and received my Bachelor's in Spanish from Grand Valley State University in 2016. I currently teach science at a small school for teenage refugee students. Many of these students are from Central America and because of this I have learned a lot of different regional Spanish slang. Through this school district I also teach Spanish virtually to two other schools within my hometown. At these two schools my students are mainly native Spanish speakers, so there is more of an emphasis on grammar and writing. Just like with any language, I am constantly learning new lingo thanks to my students.
Besides teaching in a professional setting, I have also taught English at a summer camp in Italy. This was such a rewarding and eye-opening experience. I learned a lot about myself and teaching in general. I came back to the States with more knowledge and ideas than I ever thought I would have!
Traveling is a great passion of mine and my goal is to travel as much as I can every year. While traveling for fun seems like the best way to go, I want to travel to help others in any way possible whether it's through language learning or various humanitarian efforts.
While I am relatively new to teaching, I believe I bring refreshing and engaging lesson plans. I like to get to know my students and their language ability before diving into lessons so that the lessons are tailored just for you. If you feel like we might be a good fit, don't be shy to send a message!
