Whether you are the parent of a young child who is interested in learning the basics of healthy singing, a middle school or high school student who wants to begin classical voice training, music theory and note reading, or an adult who wants to explore a passion for music, I’d love to hear from you!
About Amanda S.
I am a professional opera singer, currently based in Philadelphia. I graduated from the University of Maryland with a Master of Music in Opera Performance. I also hold Bachelor's degrees in Music Education as well as Voice Performance.
Students can expect to improve their vocal technique across lessons. I teach students to find ease and build healthy vocal habits so that they can be confident, freely expressive in their singing and better access their potential as a storyteller.
I am spending the 2020-2021 season as a Resident Artist with Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, New York where she will perform the roles of Monkey Queen and Lord Tiger in Monkey & Francine in the City of Tigers, as well as covering Anjana in the company’s virtual performance of Miranda: A Steampunk VR Experience, both by Kamala Sankaram. At the University of Maryland, I performed the roles of Bessie in Kurt Weill’s Mahagonny Songspiel, Mrs. Jones in Street Scene, and a “zesty” Cherubino (PG Sentinel) in Le nozze di Figaro. Other recently performed roles include Countess Ceprano & the page in Rigoletto with Bel Cantanti Opera, Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare at Chicago Summer Opera, the title role in Handel’s Ariodante with Oberlin in Italy, Armelinde in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon with Bel Cantanti Opera, Soeur Mathilde in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites with the Maryland Opera Studio, and Terry Evans in the premiere of Theo Popov’s Town Hall. Equally at home on the concert stage, I have performed as a soloist in Stravinsky’s Les Noces with the University of Maryland Chamber singers, in recital at the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C., with the Capital City Symphony, and the University of Maryland Wind Ensemble.

I'm an adult student returning to music lessons after a MANY year break so incredibly rusty, and I'm so happy I decided to take lessons from Amanda! She's a very insightful teacher, lessons are fun, and I'm making great progress. It's truly a highlight of my week.
