Hi, there! My name is Amanda, and I can't wait to meet you! I'm a native Brazilian who's also fluent in Spanish and Italian.
I am super passionate about education, and I love to help people learn music and foreign languages - for me these subjects are completely connected with each other, as the teaching approaches are very similar.
I went to The New School and earned a double degree in Jazz Performance and Liberal Arts in 2011.
In regards to music, I've been teaching private lessons since 1996 and have loved helping my students with music competitions, becoming professional, and being accepted in top Universities. I have an extensive experience as a side musician, studio/session instrumentalist, as well as a composer, arranger and producer, and believe that sharing it can be valuable teaching tool for music students of all levels.
On the Foreign Languages side, I've helped numerous students with short and long term goals, such as a business trip, being able read novels, or just being able to have a conversation in Portuguese, Spanish or Italian.
I'm a passionate and patient person and my teaching style is totally customized according to what each student needs, what he or she likes. I'm also a big motivator, and will show you great things that you can do with the practice.
I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I began teaching Portuguese as a second language to foreigners back in Brazil, and continued to do so in the U.S.
I started giving private bass lessons at a very young age.

Official language proficiency certificate issued by the Italian government.
Amanda is a phenomenal musician who also happens to be an incredibly dedicated educator. She has so much passion for music and for helping students reach their potential! When I started taking private lessons with her I wasn't sure if I would be able to keep up with practice because of my really busy schedule. Amanda not only helped me to improve my playing but also taught me how to manage my time for efficient practice, always infusing every lesson with her amazing enthusiasm!
I'm really happy I found Amanda and I look forward to continuing learning from her: I highly recommend her
I have known Amanda for about a year. She has a deep sense of musicality that cannot be imitated or faked, and a vast knowledge of genres, arrangements, and technique.
Beyond the stats and her intimidatingly impressive portfolio and collaborations, what most impresses me is her grounded nature, thorough preparation, thoughtful communication & teaching, and kindness.
To know and learn from her as a musician and person is an opportunity I hope you have the privilege to take.
I'm a very busy lawyer and could never find a class or a teacher that would work with my schedule, so I felt that I'd never be able to learn a foreign language, and "retain it." Amanda was an amazing teacher. She'd go to my office, and understand my crazy/flexible schedule, and we'd work one-on-one on my own goals, which were to speak and understand the language, while also learning about the culture.
During our first class, Amanda asked me about my passions. I told her that I love listening to rock and that I used to practice Capoeira. So, she got me specific texts about Capoeira (in Portuguese) for us to practice reading, and every other week, she would make me learn a new song from a Brazilian rock band containing some of the new words/vocabulary that we were working on. Instead of trying to memorize words, I was just singing them while driving to work!
Totally awesome, Amanda never wasted my time and went straight into teaching what I wanted in a super fun way. I couldn't even believe that I was having fun while learning a new language!
