Piano with Allison C.

Hi there! My name is Allison and I am currently in my 3rd year of teaching in Fairfax County Public Schools! I teach elementary general music to students in grades K-6 at a Title 1 elementary school that is also a Level IV AAP Center. I have a diverse group of students who speak many languages and come from many socio-economic backgrounds. I enjoy getting to know my students and learning what they love and how to adapt my teaching to their needs! Before I came to Fairfax County I taught Pre-K in the Richmond metro area for a year. I also come from a large family-I have 5 younger siblings! One of my siblings has high-functioning autism, so I have a special place in my heart for students like my brother! I have taken piano lessons since I was 8 years old and studied piano in college. I attended James Madison University and graduated with a degree in Vocal Music Education (K-12). I am certified in the state of Virginia in both vocal and instrumental music education for grades K-12. Some of my favorite composers include Bach, Mozart, and Yiruma. I enjoy listening to all genres of music, as well. I also speak Spanish and some conversational Korean. My hobbies include taekwondo, swimming, and reading. I also am of the Christian faith and am involved in my church. (Note: I do not incorporate my faith into my teaching unless a student or student's parent requests it.) I like to use the Alfred's Basic Piano Series, but if a student has started another series, I will be happy to continue with that series.
