About Alison M.

Hello!

I am a professional teaching musician located in Greenville, NC. After earning my bachelors degree from the Hartt School in Hartford, CT, I relocated to NC to pursue my masters degree from East Carolina University. During college and graduate school, I studied with John Wion, Christine Gustafson, and Julius Baker.

I currently perform with the Fayetteville (NC) Symphony Orchestra and the Wilson Symphony in addition to free-lancing throughout eastern NC. In addition to teaching private lessons, I also teach music at Pitt Community College and at The Oakwood School, which is an independent PK-12 school. I have performed for three years with the Professional Flute Choir at the National Flute Association convention as well.

My students range in age from 6 to 75 years old! My middle and high school students audition successfully for regional and state competitions and honor bands, and many of my former students became music majors in college and now have exciting careers in music themselves. I also enjoy teaching adults who perhaps never had the opportunity to learn to play and are beginning flute lessons for the first time, and those who want to return to making music as an enjoyable, no-stress hobby.

I personally enjoy classical and symphonic music, but encourage all of my students to explore genres of music that most interest them. Whether you are an aspiring orchestral flutist or just want to play your favorite movie themes, a strong foundation in flute tone and technique are important to your success. I look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your musical goals!
