I have been crocheting for more than 30 years. I have taught small classes in the past, and learned much about how to successfully bring this wonderful artform into other people's lives.

My strengths in crocheting are in making clothing (bottom up sweaters, bottom up socks, scarves, mittens, hats, dishrags, potholders, and afghans. I love to design some of these myself or modify patterns I have to better suit me. I also am good at filet crochet and I used to make more doilies than I do now.

In addition to teaching you individual crochet stitches or stitch patterns, I can teach you all the foundational skills. These would be: the vocabulary of crochet, how to read yarn labels, how to choose crochet hooks you like to use, how to read written and graphic patterns, and anything else that will make you a wise shopper and informed crocheter.

Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, let's crochet together! I have good beginner projects for you to do, or we can tackle specific areas you want to address. am looking forward to meeting you.

About Alise L.

I picked up my first crochet hook when I was in about 6th grade. I had some written instructions for how to do it, and probably got as far as doing some chains. In High School, my interest re-emerged when I took a class called Creative Living, in which I formally learned to crochet (among other wonderful needle crafts). From then on til today, more than 30 years later, I have still been pretty steadily crocheting.

I do not take credit for my ability to crochet or teach this beautiful and functional craft to others. I did not wave a magic wand over myself in 5th grade, and tell myself, “Now you are an artist.” I believe where it says in the Bible that “all good gifts come from above.” I am just the recipient of these things. But as a grateful recipient, I take great pleasure in helping others learn this craft and be able to make things for themselves and others. I must regrettably admit, though, that I do not have much experience teaching left-handed crocheters.

The things I love to crochet include sweaters, winter outerwear, and functional kitchen items. In the past, I also made afghans and doilies.

I believe a significant part of learning how to crochet is having a solid foundation before picking up yarn and hook. For this reason, I take a lot of time teaching the vocabulary of crochet, all about hooks and yarns and threads and other tools of the trade, how to read written and graphic patterns, and about all the great information and project helps you can find in a typical crochet magazine. After that, I dive into the mechanics of basic stitches as we put together a simple project.

That all being said, though, I am more interested in knowing and working towards my students' particular goals because, in the end, I want you to enjoy crocheting more than I want to share all I could about it.

So, whether you have never picked up a crochet hook or would like to delve into more advanced stitch techniques, I would love to help you reach your individual goals in learning to crochet.
