Alexandra Mortenson is a private violin teacher and writing coach in Salt Lake City. Her name means “keeper of man”, hence she has a wonderful husband, eight younger brothers, and a sneaking suspicion that she may end up with all sons. She loves to read, write, run, and hike in the mountains. Alexandra is delighted by her opportunities to teach and help her students succeed in achieving their personal goals and ambitions. Please contact her with any questions or interest in taking lessons. She teaches the following subjects: VIOLIN Alexandra has been studying the violin for over 20 years, taking lessons primarily from Peggy Wheelwright and John England. She played in the youth violin group Pizzicato Strings and was concert master for her middle school and high school orchestras. Alex completed a music minor at the University of Utah in December 2016 and enjoyed four years with the University Campus Symphony. A few of Alex’s favorite pieces include Csardas (V. Monti), Symphony Espagnole (Lalo), Theme from Schindler’s List (John Williams) and The Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels). WRITING Words are Alexandra's passion, and she graduated in December, 2016 with her Honors B.A. in English. She has written for The Standard Examiner,The Daily Utah Chronicle, and LDSLiving Magazine, publishing a variety of articles and gaining experience in research, interviewing, writing, and editing. She has also worked as a research writer and editor for FamilySearch and has been accepted to present twice at the National Undergraduate Literature Conference. She enjoys writing short stories, personal essays, academic papers, biographies, and basically anything that includes words. KOREAN Alexandra learned Korean while serving in South Korea for a year and a half as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. While there she taught and studied daily in the Korean language, and upon returning home she started the Korean Studies minor at the University of Utah, which she graduated from in December 2016.

I am taking online Korean lessons with Alexandra. She is very sweet and patient. She allows time for questions at the beginning of each lesson - even if the questions are applicable to previous chapters, she is happy to cover them. She welcomes my feedback to adjust future lessons. Overall, I am happy with her teaching style.

After his first reading/writing lesson with Alexandra, my son was enthusiastic and invigorated. Usually, performing writing exercises for more than five minutes completely depresses him but he thought his hour lesson with her went quickly. I'm very excited to see his improvement in weeks to come.
