I believe that I am qualified to tutor writing, because I have done very well in my college writing classes, at one point I considered being a writing minor. I have been recommended by professors to submit poetry to the university's newspaper. In addition to this, I received an award for embodying one of our writing departments main ideals, and a paper I submitted on a problem within American society was accepted to a day where students give 50-minute talks/presentations on their work. Finally, when I was in high school I went to the state level for a creative writing competition, and was the only one in my school in attendance for writing.

I started to, formally, tutor when I was in high school; I was recommended by my anatomy teacher at the time to tutor another student who needed help. In terms of informal tutoring, when I was growing up I would help my friend's younger siblings in subjects such as math or science. In college, I would often times read my classmates papers and give them advice or help them improve upon their written work.

I found it to be really rewarding, on my part, when the student I tutored grew to have a better understanding of the concept. Not only that, but they seemed to have gained more confidence in class. After that, I would try to offer whoever needed it tutoring. I never found it to be monotonous or dull; rather, I found it exciting and I could tell that the people I was tutoring really became engaged in the subject in question.

My tutoring style is first to try and get a grasp of what the student understands and what they are struggling with. Usually, by using this method, it can help me to find out how exactly to tackle the problem at hand. After all, different problems call for different approaches. In general, I tend to be a very receptive tutor; I try to tailor the tutoring experience to what the student them self feels works best for them.
