    About Alex J.

Hey Everyone, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Classical Guitar from Brevard College. Since 1999, I have been playing a variety of styles of guitar including Jazz, Classical, Blues, and Rock. In addition to continuing my studies in guitar, I play in multiple bands and also spend time in my home recording studio. Following my audio engineering experience with Charles Holloman Productions of Charlotte, NC, I am able to complement his classical training with a modern take on music in the professional world. I always go out of my way to make a student more comfortable during a lesson and my main goal in teaching is to have fun. I am very outgoing and love nothing more than to see a student succeed and follow his or her dreams in music. I can, and do, record most of my students during lessons to allow them to show others their talents and to hear their development over time. Whatever your needs, I will do my best to better them. Below are just a few of my accomplishments: Education: Brevard College Spring 2012 Bachelor of Arts in Music, Emphasis in Classical Guitar Macquarie University Fall 2010 Study Abroad - Macquarie, Australia North Carolina School of the Arts Summer 2009 Summer Guitar Program Principal Teachers: Lou Mowad Spring 2009-2013 Mark Yaxley Fall 2008 Roger Cope Fall 2007-Spring 2009 Jason Lyerly Fall 2000-Fall 2005 Jason Mullen Fall 2005-Fall 2007 *** Lesson Details *** A guitar lesson could entail sight reading, scales, improvisation, music theory, music analysis, chord structure, proper techniques, modes, ear training, and many other lesson plans. Again my main goal is to have fun! I have a creative plan for each student so that he or she may stay positive and motivated to learn while enjoying and appreciating music, and improving on their musical ability. If a student is in the introductory phase, that particular student will be analyzed on his or her technique, familiarity, and knowledge of their instrument. Then I would plan a structured lesson around those areas needing improvement. An ideal guitar student would be one who is willing to learn and doesn't mind daily practice. If jamming or learning covers are more your thing then let’s rock! I love playing cover music and jamming out with students. I believe it is vital to being a musician to be able to improvise. *** Studio Equipment *** I have a large music room with a piano, Pro Tools 10, many guitars, and plenty of amplifiers. I have anything and everything you need to succeed. Parents can sit it on lessons as well. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a guitar, a bass guitar, an amplifier, and recording capabilities when traveling to a student’s house. *** Specialties *** I specialize in rock, blues, jazz, and classical music for the guitar.
