    About Alex T.

Hello! My name is Alex and I've been a professional bassist for the past 15 years. I have enjoyed learning the instrument and have strived to be as versatile and educated as possible, not just on my principle instrument, but in music as a whole. I graduated from the Jackie McLean Institute at the University of Hartford and moved to New York City to continue my career and studies. Since moving to New York I've been hired to play at some of the cities biggest venues and various festivals around the country and the world. These venues include the Blue Note, The Cotton Club (Tokyo), Blues Alley, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, The Jazz Standard, Minton's PlayHouse, Joe's Pub, The Iridium, and that's just to name a few! I've loved teaching for many years and have gained experience leading programs for different age groups. My teaching credentials include after-school and in-school programs for kids from ages 10-18 and also various workshops as a private clinician at the University of Hartford, University of West Virginia, and many different public and private high schools in the states of Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. In conjunction with these credentials I've also worked for organizations such as Jazz House Kids, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Arts By The People, and am currently director of the BackCountry Jazz after-school music program. I get great joy from teaching and working with students of different levels and ages and I always take extra care in making sure that all the information being taught is organized and that the student has fun and learns at their own pace. Making sure that the students understand the information and know how to apply it in a real-life playing situation is one of my main goals as a teacher. Many of my former students have told me that when studying with me they're constantly learning and deepening their knowledge, most of the time without even realizing it. This is because I enjoy using real examples of the music that I suggest to them, or that they themselves are listening to, to illustrate what I am teaching, and how they can use it too. I hope this gave you some insight into my lifelong journey as a musician and I sincerely look forward to meeting you and showing you via online or in person what I can do for you and how anything is possible with a great teacher!
