I am an award-winning composer and have been passionate about music all my life. I've been playing in symphonies for over a decade, have been principal violist and a featured soloist, and performed as a session player on movie scores. I've taught violin and viola since 2008 and worked with students ages 4 to adult. I am certified in the Suzuki Method and also teach what is sometimes referred to as "traditional lessons." You are never too old to begin learning music! I've worked with beginners of all ages. Learning to play violin or viola is about so much more than just classical music and scales! Although we love scales. Especially played fast. In addition to solid fundamentals of technique and musicality, I teach a broad range of styles including classical, folk/fiddle, pop, movie and video game scores. You'll get to learn the music that YOU want to play! I also teach composition and music theory (which is beneficial skill set for performers and composers alike). Please send me a message and let me know your musical goals. I'd love to work with you!

My daughter looked forward to lessons and made great progress with Alex. I appreciated that Alex was always organized and flexible and that her prices were reasonable. Overall very happy with our lessons!

My daughter, Ada, was losing interest in her violin lessons and not making progress, so we signed her up to take lessons with Alex. This turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. Alex had excellent rapport with my daughter and was quickly finding important practice points for her to focus on. Even more important I was impressed with the multitude of solutions and exercises that Alex came up with to help my daughter get beyond her problem areas, and bad habits. On top of this, Ada was having fun, and was getting really motivated to practice. Alex’s attention to detail, excellent skill on the instrument, creativity with exercise ideas, and persistent yet friendly character were the perfect ingredients for a positive and productive music lesson experience. We would still be taking lessons with Alex if she still lived in our area for sure. (She is also an incredibly talented composer, which is a great thing for young musicians to learn about).

Alex is an excellent teacher. When I came to her I had nearly no sense of rhythm. She is very in tune with her students as well as extremely patient. This was crucial to me and helping me learn. I've been yelled at quite often by teachers for not "trying hard enough" or " making things harder than they are". With Alex there was none of that. She taught me decompression exercises for when I am getting frustrated with myself. Theory and rhythm practice used to be something I dreaded now I look forward to learning more theory.
