I believe teaching needs to be tailor-fit to the individual. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to private instruction. Our lessons will begin by me getting to know who you are as a student and as a musician. We will determine what you want out of music and your instrument, then we will set goals to get there. All of this will be a collaboration between me and you. I believe that music must be a self-driven endeavor. It is a vehicle for self-discovery.

That being said, I do believe in having a solid technical foundation, and I will push you to develop a daily practice routine. I try to begin every lesson with a rudimental warmup, regardless of age or experience. I also try to include free-play time, playing together, or playing along to music with every session to have fun and develop creativity. I believe fun, creativity, and human-connection is what music is all about, and technique is the work you put in to make those things happen. We will always end on a positive note to keep you looking forward to next time!

Alex began his drumming career at age 11, and it quickly became his number one passion. Graduating from the snare drum to the drum set in high school, he learned to love the excitement of the stage with his rock band, Ghost Animals, and dove deep into the world of jazz while playing in his high school jazz band. He pushed himself to be well-rounded by participating in any ensemble he could, from the drum line to the pit orchestra, even winning the local solo & ensemble competition on timpani. He continued to study music in college where he was exposed to composition and music theory. Today Alex continues to share his passion by making a career in music as a performer and teacher. He loves the unique opportunity teaching gives to inspire both children and adults to discover themselves through music.
