My Philosophy - Students First - My main goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere in which the student can proceed at his/her own pace. Whether you are looking to perform, do studio work, audition, be a songwriter or just learn a few songs for your own enjoyment. I am happy to create a custom program for you. I believe the most fundamental place to begin is with theory. Through a creative, relaxed and patient environment I introduce students to the rudiments of music on 2 simple pages. Theory helps you to understand song writing, ear training, and how to build chords and scales. I try to get you to hear the music so you can improvise better and also take songs and solos off CD's yourself, therefore becoming more self reliant to teach yourself in the future.
My students bring in the songs they like and by strengthening their ears and learning to apply theory points, I show them how they can figure out the song by ear the exact way it was written and played by the original artist. Therefore you can play with the CD as if you are a band member. This builds confidence to perform and record in any band at any level. As stated above, I will also customize a program for those interested in learning songs without the theory work so they can use the music to play songs as a nice relaxing past time.
Course Descriptions- Rock, Blues and Funk: You will quickly learn how chords and scales are developed using a condensed theory set up chart. This quick immersion in theory helps you to build a strong foundation while at the same time playing and enjoying the music. I have found in my years of teaching that making theory and music interactive from the beginning makes it more enjoyable to learn. You will learn all scales, chords, techniques, rhythms, and ear training specific to these styles of music. The advantage to this Teaching Format , especially in terms of solo scale playing, to progress much further and faster than if you were just learning how to play the songs. We then go straight to the CD's of your choice and learn from the best, the artists you've admired. Whether to learn their rhythms, solo lines, songwriting formats, melodies and harmonies, and all by ear. As a soloist, you will know enough about scales and chord theory and how to blend the two so you can make the guitar talk yourself. Still for those who want a quick song approach, we can get into playing a song and review its theory relevance when desired. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)
Folk, Country and Bluegrass: As stated above, I begin with the condensed theory chart to understand chords of all types. Here we study rhythms of the above music forms including ballad, country blues and country folk. Through use of songs you enjoy, we study how the music was written and performed. You will learn in this course how to play music you love as it was done by the original artist. We begin with listening to the original soundtrack. Through the use of the ear we dissect the song and learn it in its original form piece by piece. This will also help set up the study of song writing. Understanding how artists Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Transposing songs to fit your vocal range and Arranging songs to bring out their best. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)
Finger Style: Great fun for those who would rather not sing but still want to play full songs on guitar. This style of guitar will blend the techniques of traditional finger picking artists along with our own on improvisation over twelve bar blues progressions and songs. You will learn to play all the parts, bass, melody, harmony and inside chords with your picking hand. Also how to create chord/melody arrangements from any melody.
Classical: Classical guitar is taught through developing standard reading skills, finger exercises and scale work while learning beautiful pieces at the same time.
Song Writing: Song writing always begins with an introduction to theory. From there you will study works from other artists to see how they Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and how they use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Choose a song and artist that you enjoy and we will dissect the piece learning the above techniques.
Children's Studies: The study of music has proven to enhance a child's concentration, mathematical and reading skills, self confidence, performance skills in all walks of life whether its playing the guitar, to public speaking, to playing sports.

I would recommend Albert for anyone looking to give guitar a try. I am 40 and had ZERO musical background, and always wanted to play guitar. I was attracted to the way a guitar would light up a room. Albert is the perfect guide to help unlock the mysteries of the guitar. Albert has created an extremely positive learning environment for me both during a lesson and at home. I feel like I take home another piece of the puzzle after each lesson.
Albert as a teacher.
The most notable quality to me is that he truly wants to see you learn guitar and enjoy playing. His attention to detail is great and is completely engaged in the lesson. He introduces music theory in just the right dose, and then shows you how it applies to what and how you are playing. He makes theory fun leaving you excited to unlock the next level. His depth of music knowledge is impressive, and an incredible asset for his students. Albert has a bright positive energy and I always look forward to my lessons with him. Alberts house is at the end of a quiet road across from the water and a marina. His Jam space is very Zen and his lovely wife is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Good vibes for sure. Sometimes I feel like I just left a yoga class lol. Albert is flexible with lesson times and very accommadating. I play the guitar every day and enjoy every moment of it. I have two guitars now (acoustic and electric) I am having fun learning and look forward to my next lesson. If your looking for a guitar guru Albert is a home run!
I agree with everything everyone else says about Albert so I don't want to repeat. I started with him when I retired (bucket list litem) and Albert is very patient and helpful ( as well as accommodating my uneven scheduling). You get into songs you like right away and learn technique within the songs as you go. He'll give you as much theory as you want. Shortly after you start with Albert you'll feel like your learning/ playing with a friend... I highly recommend him!+ Read More
The reason Albert is the best instructor ever is that he is really gifted at his craft and at teaching. So many people can do one or the other. Albert makes it fun and instills a desire to practice, and balances theory/performance goals. He is college educated in music and will teach the fundamentals-having said that, he would make a great teacher for the advanced player as well.
Finally, he is the most patient teacher I know, a plus for you and/or your child. I would be pleased to talk personally to anyone considering Albert for lessons.
Great teacher...motivates me to do more than I thought I could ...! Always look forward to my session.
I won a few guitar lessons with Albert at a Gift Auction at my son's Elementary School many years ago. Albert was a wonderful teacher who seemed to know how to play any song I suggested and got me motivated to play the guitar again! I then signed both of my kids up with him. They took lessons on and off for many years and today they both sing and play guitar every chance they get. Thank you Albert for introducing them to the guitar and motivating them to play! It is a huge part of their lives!+ Read More
Albert is able to relate to students of all ages, very well and give them a solid foundation. I was eight years old when I began taking lessons from him and he gave me a foundation in Rock, Blues, and Acoustic guitar that has lasted a life time. Albert is a very patient teacher and very talented musician.+ Read More
Albert is an excellent teacher of many styles - I learned classical, rock, bluegrass and folk guitar while working with him. As an older player trying to pick up an instrument again, he made me feel comfortable and much less intimidated at the task. It is true that he is very patient and dedicated to helping you realize your musical goals. I give him my highest recommendation.+ Read More
Albert is a musical genius and a perfect teacher. For years, I wanted to build on my guitar playing as a kid, improve and learn how to play my favorite songs in fingerstyle (Albert teaches all styles), but I could never find a teacher. I finally found Albert, literally almost twenty years ago. With his help, I tremendously improved and learned to play some great songs. I would bring in a CD with a great solo version of songs like Eleanor Rigby, Albert would figure out the tablature for it, and he'd help me learn it. We've done that with more songs that I can count Since I met Albert, YouTube came along, and now it's even easier to find great fingerstyle versions of songs on which I can work with Albert. My schedule does not permit me to see Albert and practice as much as in the past, but I still play, and ask Albert to help me with new arrangements I've found. I am not inherently musically gifted, but I have sufficiently improved that people have sometimes stopped to listen to me play when I'm shopping in guitar stores. I cant imagine there's a better person out there to help you achieve your goal of being able to play well.+ Read More
I've taken lessons from Albert for several years. Albert is an awesome teacher and VERY patient. He is fluent in teaching many styles of music from classical, funk, jazz, rock, county, finger style, blues, metal, ear training etc. He teaches theory and how to apply it to guitar in a way that is easy to understand. He also teaches how to read standard notation, as well as tablature. Most guitar teachers these days are just teaching tab. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Albert to anyone of any age looking to learn how to play guitar, or someone who is working on getting to the next level. Albert is a cut above the rest!+ Read More
He's better than "Cats!" Seriously, Albert's a great guy and a great teacher!
Always patient....always accessible...always flexible if I need to change an appointment. Always very encouraging to bring in the music that interest me.
I definitely recommend him.
I have been taking lessons with Albert for several years. He has become a good friend in addition to being a great teacher. He's got an incredible ear, the patience of a saint, and a terrific ability to relate to his students. I would recommend him without reservation to anyone interested in guitar.+ Read More
Albert's lessons have really stuck with me--I give him credit for helping me achieve really all of my musical goals. I've played out, been in a rock band, and started writing music, and a ton of that goes back to things I picked up from Albert.
He really tailors the lessons to what you are trying to accomplish. I would recommend Albert to anyone learning guitar.
I have wanted to take guitar lessons for a long time an am grateful to have Albert as my teacher. As I not the coordinated person in the world, he had lots of patience with my fundamentals. He also did a great job in teaching me how read music. I look forward in continuing my lessons with him.+ Read More
I started taking lessons with Albert about 10 years and could not have asked for a better teacher. He has taught me so much that I was even able to perform out several times. He quickly figured out my weaknesses and provided me techniques to over come them. He has a terrific musical knowledge and it shows in the lessons. He also was very helpful in guiding me through equipment purchases. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to play the guitar.+ Read More

Very nice guy. Made my son feel very comfortable. I wish my son lived in NJ with me I would have him see Albert on a regular basis. Thanks Albert
Albert is great! I have been wanting to learn how to play the guitar for as long as I can remember but never thought I would be able to learn. I have been taking lessons with Albert for about 2 months now and am able to play full songs and am beginning to develop my music theory skills. Albert is super patient, a great teacher and genuinely wants you to learn and get the most out of your experience.+ Read More
Great teacher and a great guy! I wanted to improve my skills but at the same time I wanted to have fun! I learned all the songs that I wanted to learn and I feel that I have improved a lot! Would def recommend Albert! 5 stars!
Albert began teaching guitar to my daughter when she was 7. He was extremely patient and really connected with her. No matter what ridiculous pop song she wanted to learn (think Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato), Albert was ready and really kept her interested. She has had to take some time off due to overscheduling but still practices and is looking forward to resuming her lessons with Albert.+ Read More
Couldn't ask for a better teacher!
It was happenstance that I chose Albert, and I'm so glad that I did! If it's possible to be pre-beginner, that's me. Albert has been the most amazing teacher. He's patient and makes learning easy and fun. He is an exceptionally talented musician who uses his skills and knowledge of music theory to make everything "click" during the learning process. Without hesitation I'd recommend Albert to the most beginner and most advanced student.
After taking lessons with Albert for 6 months I'm a better player than I thought I would be with years of practice. In no time he made me feel comfortable on an instrument that before was completely foreign to me. Every hour-long lesson (which goes by in what feels like 20 minutes) is filled with advice and information that would otherwise have taken me a lot longer to figure out on my own. He's very patient and will teach you ANY theory/song/style/riff that you want to learn, and what's best is you WILL learn it! I highly recommend him to anyone looking to get better at guitar.
