Magister sic sum
I had favored an almost totally grammatical method, such as that found in Wheelock's, for many years. Then I was introduced to spoken Latin. From then-on I taught such that all four linguistic components were featured: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, Hans Ørberg's Lingua Latina per se Illustrata with the available supplemental materials. Now when tutoring a student, I work with what I have. I cannot determine what the student is doing in someone's class, but sometimes I may have to ask for additional work of different types from that being done by the student. I use Latin regularly, but only reading and speaking and the speaking is not so much conversation, and so I recognize my rustiness. I have indicated that I work with beginners and intermediary students the high school level -- the level is high school not necessarily the age or the class -- because I want to be able to give what I claim.
About Albert D.

Much of what you might want to know is in the subject description, but I will expand on myself a bit here. In most respects I loved school and learning since at least eight-years-old. This was not only with regard to mathematics and Spanish but in almost any field, even for example, printmaking, in which I was not very good at all. I tutored since I was in eighth grade. After my undergraduate studies, I went immediately to teach at a small, poor private school. I loved it. I went because I needed to know what I should do; I needed God to show me. He did so by closing one door in that first semester. I then was free to study philosophy and theology as a layman. Unless you are extremely wealthy, which I am not, you cannot obtain graduate degrees in everything. I continued tutoring and worked for several years a high school teacher and college instructor/professor before I received my PhD in historical theology from Catholic University of America. While I would love to be able to continue studying for one or more master's degrees, I will never do another dissertation. It came at too high cost. I would have loved to have found the right spot at the right college after earning the PhD, but we cannot always get what we want. For a combination of reasons, it proved impossible despite four years of trying. I could not live my life perpetually waiting. In the meanwhile, I had taken a job in a medical office. Again, God blessed me. After four and half years, it was time for me to move on. I currently have a job in which I am still a novice, and I need to balance it with something else. I am now returning to teaching and tutoring mathematics and Spanish. I very much hope, after a hiatus, that it is a joy for my students and me.
