With a degree in Jazz Performance and years of experience teaching private lessons and playing drums professionally, I offer my students a wealth of knowledge gained from studying with master musicians as well as from personal experience. Not being blessed with much "natural rhythm", I remember very clearly what it was like to run into obstacles on the drums, and consequently how I overcame these difficulties on the instrument, creating the talent myself. So when a student runs into a roadblock, it's easy for me to break down the concept in an accessible way for them. This goes for beginners all the way to advanced students.
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are given in New Paltz at CHBO Drums ... an exciting and inspirational place to learn the drums!
I teach out of three main books: Syncopation for the Modern Drummer by Ted Reed, Modern Reading text in 4/4 by Louis Bellson, and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone. I also write out my own exercise sheets to give out to students. I have taught without the use of books and reading, although I've found that once most students get the hang of reading and writing, they'll have to ability to absorb information at a faster pace, not to mention that these are valuable skills to have as a musician.
Each student's personal goals and musical tastes are taken into account, each student's lesson being personalized, which makes the lessons more exciting for both myself the students. I specialize in Rock, Jazz, Funk, Latin, Reggae, Motown, Drum n' Bass, Hip Hop and Pop drumming styles. If you want to learn a song, bring it in!
