His extensive composition and performance experience includes appearances with: Adam Rudolph and GO Organic Orchestra, Austin New Music Co-op, Revel, New Media Art and Sound Summit (COTFG), Density 512, Liminal Sound Series, SoundSpace Series at the Blanton Museum of Art, Sonic Transmissions, and his own composer-led group, Slant Ensemble. Coming from a jazz background, his work focuses on creative group improvisation, graphic and experimental notation, and conductor-led spontaneous group composition as well as traditional systems of notation. He holds degrees in jazz composition from Berklee College of Music (BA) and the University of Texas, Butler School of Music (MM). Alan is also a founding member of Live Oak Trio, a string trio specializing in weddings and special events based out of Austin, TX. LESSONS The development of fundamental music skills, such as a continuing exploration of harmony, rhythm, and listening skills, are an integral part of my approach to instrumental studies. With over 12 years of teaching experience, I have worked with students of all ages and interests. There is always more to explore, and everyone has room for improvement. Above all, my approach to teaching and personal practice is all about collaboration, exploration, and connection.
