ABOUT ME I teach both piano and voice in Oxford, MA. where I co-own Calton Music Studio. My students currently range from 2.5 years old (in KiddyKeys preschool piano classes) to adult, and I love teaching them all! I’ve taught students ranging from novices to professionals and conservatory-bound high school students, and I’m particularly passionate about working with enthusiastic beginners and building musical fluency from the bottom up. I also adore working with older students on the finer details of technique and seeing them light up when everything finally clicks! One of my main goals as a teacher is to provide a unique learning experience tailored to each individual student. I incorporate proven classical techniques with modern technology and approaches to make lessons both effective and engaging. I’m extremely passionate about both vocal and piano pedagogy and am always on the lookout for new research and new ways to keep things interesting. My students, whether studying piano or voice, explore a wide variety of repertoire, including classical, folk, jazz, and popular styles. If you’re curious about the nitty gritty, I have a Bachelor of Music from New England Conservatory and a Master of Music from Longy School of Music of Bard College. When I’m not teaching or practicing, myself, you can usually find me behind a book, at a local farmer’s market, or directing the choir at the First Congregational Church of Oxford. STUDIO My home studio has a grand piano and a seating/waiting area for parents and siblings. STUDENT MATERIALS I will provide reference books and other teaching materials that will be used in lessons. I expect my students to have a piano (or full-sized keyboard with 88 weighted keys, an attached pedal, and a proper bench) for home practice and to reimburse me for books to be used at home.

Alaina was great with my 7 year old son who is very shy. He enjoyed his first lesson and is looking forward to the next one.

Great insight! Alaina was such a great teacher! She was my teacher my senior year of high school and was really helpful. She picked out pieces that really showed off my voice and helped me get in to a good music school. Now that I am in college, Alaina has because a great friend and mentor to me! I am really lucky to have found her as a teacher. :)
